Finder Scope Blues

The Telrad is indispensable! When I pass into the great void, I'm taking my Telrad and some batteries! grin

There really is no better locator for most visual work. Much faster with less puttzing around. Some will use an actual finder after the telrad to locate dim globs, etc. but the telrad will get you within .5* so who needs a finder unless you only use 200X+ in the main scope.

All my scopes have a Telrad and have had for 15+ years. Edmund sold a bull's eye wheat lamp in a metal cast body in the 50's. Same principle as the Telrad. My brother and I used this one for years . It weighed more than our scope and was still worth the fuss.

Apogee Zoom

I'm not certain either. I have the original and it is as good as any expensive zoom I've previously owned.

The stats are slightly different and the appearance is upgraded. I know they hit a home run with the previous (Nikon) zoom and were probably trying to get Nikon to continue production. ????

It will be interesting to hear a review.

Near Full Moon Nights

I've been addicted to double stars for lots of decades. cwy I only consider the bright moon periods as another observing opportunity.

Color contrasts, magnitude contrasts, position angles, triples, equalateral triples, quads; lots to see.

I can take a break from large aperture viewing and use smaller more comfortable stuff.

Seeing determines the view, not transparency so much.

Sonotube for 12.5 inch DOB

Hey Jon,

You might try looking up some of the construction material wholesalers in your area. We have one in Phoenix that handles a couple of brands of "sonotube". There are different thicknesses and I.D/O.D. treatment. They start from ~6.0 to 36.0". They usually allow you to scroung around for a previously cut piece. They can cut a length for you.

My Sky Shed just finished

I'm building a similar roll-off too, however I feel like starting over now that I see yours! cwy :S

I want to steal the garage door roller idea and was wondering about the number of rollers needed. I'm guessing you have them spaced at approximately 12". My roof will be 11 x 11' and may weigh about the same as this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
