GM8 for a 25lb 6" F8 refractor?

I threw my AR-6 on it for giggles and it works fine. Gemini is right on - although I run at 18v. I have the 12" pier extension so hight is not a problem. I also have the "old" non adjustable "round" legs tripod - which I think is far more stable then the current "square" adjustable one.

Well the marketing will tell you this mount and it's clones can handle 35lbs. But that's a joke. Reality is 15lbs is about MAX.

You don't say what OTA you plan on using. If you want to use a c-11 - at a minimum I'd look to the Losmandy G-11.

Neither mount is really suitable for long exposure work, but short stuff and stacking and you will be able to do some stuff - just don't "under mount". For those mounts a 4" Ref, or a 6" Cat/newt is probably a good combo.

They were the old fork mounted SNT's meade put out in the early 90's. I believe they were LX-3/LX-5/LX-6 electronics. They are - as far as I know - similar but not the same as the current SNT's on the german EQ LXD-55/75 mount. They got "mixed" reviews at the time - but I have no first hand review - although Todd Gross on his site has one on the OTA (6" I believe).

My INTES 2" diagonal did come with an interferogram - I just sold it here on A-Mart - 1/25 wave flat. I believe INTES offered this through APM and probably ITE back when they were still around.

That said, I can see NO difference visually between my typical 1/4 wave (guestimate) Orion one that is going on 15-18 years old, my 1/10 wave WO Dielectric, or the old INTES. I would guess because the light cone is so narrow by the time it hits the diagonal it has a much less effect visually.

When I do this I usually go a totally different direction - Instead of another SCT, why not a refractor or Newt - and instead of F/10, go wider field - like f/5-7.

Unless it's super dusty don't bother. Most dust has little optical effect and the risk to damage to the corrector is to great durring removal it's usually not worth it.
