The two best ways to make Kydex to stick to itself are by using some type of PVC solvent cement or using a hot air welding process, but that takes some special equipment.

Fess Up Does Anybody Have the Prayer Cross?

I was watching those commercials a while back when I noticed that the *entire* Lord's Prayer is not included in the visible text. What's up with that? I'll bet that a lot of old folks with marginal eyesight have a tough time seeing anything in that little thing anyway.

Naw, I didn't buy one. I'll just stick with the plastic bobble-head "Jesus" on my dashboard.

Red Static Cling Film

I'd suggest you avoid using any static cling plastic film as the plasticizer in it would likely attack the plastic in the LCD screen on your laptop. I've tried using sheets of Rubylith film but it's clumsy to mount and is not perfectly transparent.

For my old laptop, I bought one of those commercially made ($30) red acrylic sheet screens which has a plastic frame which clips over the top of the laptop's screen but it tends to encroach on the edges of the computer's screen and was clumsy to store and transport.

When I got my new laptop, I decided to make my own red screen. I found a local industrial plastics supplier that custom cut me a piece of 1/8" thick red acrylic sheet (Plexiglas) to my specified dimensions for about $15. I just had to round the corners and smooth the edges with fine sandpaper. I simply lay it on the laptop's screen frame and I'm in business. (See attached photo.)

It doesn't touch the LCD screen yet protects it. It's perfectly clear which makes the image easy to see and there's no unnecessary red screen frame to encroach upon the edges. For storage I place it in a large manila envelope and it fits into the pouch on the back of my laptop bag, using up virtually no space.

Too bad Billy Mays isn't around to market that idea. It does need some safety modifications though. I figure it's only a matter of time before he gets a finger caught in the chain saw's exposed drive gears. Ouch!

Well, I'm truly glad it's over for somebody, but you couldn't tell in my neck of the woods. Every one of my friends who have been laid off in the past year is still looking for work, the built-in COLA in my primary retirement checks has vaporized while my monthly bills keep going up in big chunks, I'm still taking a $300/month cut in my retirement investment disbursements and both me and my college student daughter were conveniently excluded from Obama's stimulus tax break. Two months ago my credit card company agreed to my request to lower my interest rate so I could pay off my balance a little faster. Last week they changed the rules and jacked the interest rate back up again. Every time I turn around, Murphy's Law strikes again.

I think the recession is a long way from being over. Guess I better start practicing to go back to work; "Welcome to Wal-Mart!"
