eyepiece rack - looking for a source

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Mark, You may have already thought of this but have you considered building one? Just a 1X4 with the corners sanded off smooth and use the door knob type saw for your drill and a .29 cent piece of felt to line the holes. Total cost if you already have the hole saws would be just a couple dollars and time spent would be less than an hour including paint or stain. But some folks don't like to go this route which is fine, thats why they sell the racks also. I've built 3 of these racks and they look great and very strong. You can put as many holes as you like depending on the length of the board you can use. They have any size hole saw you need and it makes a perfectly round hole. Just trying to help and maybe give you a new idea. Regards, Darrell

Meade is actually alive

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hey, I could'nt believe it, Meade sent me my sky assurance contract. They have it written up like its for the LXD75-AR5 AT. I bought my AR5 on the factory outlet 4 months before I bought my mount. Just a little justice. I hope that if anything happens it will do so before it ends. With Meades reputation on electronics it will be sent at least 3 times by the time it ends. I actually don't expect the scope to tear up. It's always their electronics. I sure have been getting a lot of use with my dobs. Last night I was trying to build one perfect DS 2000 series mount out of 3 different ones. I think I have one I can use in emergencies. I don't know what happened, they all worked good then I stopped using them for a few months and they acted like they were mad at me or some thing. Just went all over the place, hitting the tripod, going the wrong direction. I'm going to train the drives on a few of them, that seemed to help before. I tried 4 or 5 different autostars which could'nt help at all. I think I confused every one of them. But anyway, I got my contract only 3 months after I bought it. Finally getting somewhere, Darrell

My first telescope

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Giuseppe, Give me goto anyday, it does'nt have to be a ten inch , but I love goto. I have a few dobs also that I dearly love and goto had a lot to do with showing me where to point them. It's up to you but if I had an extra 1500.00 I would jump on goto as quick as I could type the order. Good luck on whatever you get. You really can't go wrong on either choice.
Best Wishes, Darrell

Rings versus clamshell

Posted By Darrell Hensley

I've had both, the rings blows the clam shell away. A whole lot less vibrating and bouncing. The clamshell is easier but not better- at least in my case.

Solar Maximum 2011

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Does this mean that we will be able to see the northern lights in Kentucky? The article from NASA mentions that the Northern lights were seen twice in Mexico in the late 50's . I guess I probably wont get any phone calls on my cell phone from Meade on the day this huge solar storm happens, you know how they are constantly calling and bugging you wanting to do more for you than actually needed, now that would be a solar max or most likely a line up of planets along with a full moon.
