Well, Jim I'm merely pointing out that she has an advocate for the position who also happens to be powerful enough to remove a speaker from the house which is exactly what he did.

That said, I've read a promotion up to the appeals court is also being batted about...

I fully support Biden dropping out, and I only wish he had done it sooner.
"Trump, who officially accepted the Republican nomination at the GOP convention last week, leads Harris by 2 points, according to the aggregate of national polls, 47 percent support to 45 percent."

I'd expect that to tighten further in the coming weeks, and presumably if Harris is the nominee, she'll likely tie and overtake that lead after a debate or two and once the ad campaign gets underway...

But the other day, they were talking about how bad ass the AP photo of a defiant Trump was, with the bloodied ear and fist raised under the flag.  That photo pierced their bubbles, and one said he could not see Trump losing (to Biden of course at the time) after that photo made the rounds.

This is an anecdote, not sound political analysis, but at least for these guys, Trump earned a lot of goodwill by the assassination attempt, and he did not squander it with his speech, since they, and I imagine a lot of voters, have better things to do with 90 minutes of their lives than watch an acceptance speech.

I did not watch it but my brother did.  He thought the first 15 minutes were good for Trump, but it did not stop there.  Did Trump really claim he once stopped a war with a phone call?  And we thought Biden was delusional!  J
"...they were talking about how bad ass the AP photo of a defiant Trump was, with the bloodied ear and fist raised under the flag."

And here's Nancy Mace today telling the secret service director she's "full of shit" while dear leader chose to tell the agents who were risking their lives at that moment to stop so he could raise his fist, pump it and tell the crowd "fight, fight!"  You can all watch the tapes and see that.

That said, the Harris campaign raised 81 million overnight, a record amount,  from people eager to defeat the prick...

Compared to the billions of clicks on the rightwing extremist side for anything crazy, that's a drop in the bucket. Compared to the "election was stolen" nonsense, it's nothing...

I still don't understand how or why you can ignore or dismiss the actions of Trump's campaign manager at the time, Paul Manafort and the connection with Russian intelligence that was uncovered after the Muller probe:

"Manafort was ‘grave counterintelligence threat’ due to Russian contacts, Senate panel says"

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/18/manafort-worked-with-russian-intel-officer-who-may-have-been-involved-in-dnc-hack-senate-panel-says-397597

Had this happened to a Democrat, there probably would have been multiple inquisitions, before and after the pardon...

That comparo is not even close.  Did you even read the link?

We need to be specific about Manafort's conviction of which he was pardoned for by Trump:

"Manafort, who led Trump’s campaign during a pivotal 2016 period before being ousted over his ties to Ukraine, had been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for financial crimes related to his work in Ukraine. He was among the first people charged as part of Mueller’s investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia."

That said, I think you've trivialized Manafort's wrongdoing and the content of the politico reporting...

Consider Trump's 'you won't have to vote ever again' comments (I started a thread on this but it went nowhere) This is an example of saying the quiet part out loud and demonstrates that there are two phenomena in play:  There is the list of changes the conservative side would like to happen, either soon or down the trail a few years as shown in Agenda 47, project 2025 and even the policies of the PNAC from a couple of decades ago and there is what they are actually going to have to settle for, again, either soon or further down the trail.

As you have said, there is a robustness to the American political system which will tone down or outright prevent the most radical ideas but, I fear,   the protections built into the Constitution etc. are not perfectly robust and some of the anti-democratic ideas will slip through..

To be brief, if the Republicans win in November, American democracy will still be mostly ok but it will be less robust than it is now.

"To be brief, if the Republicans win in November, American democracy will still be mostly ok but it will be less robust than it is now."

You're an optimist.

That's like saying democracy will be "mostly" ok in Ukraine when it falls and ditto for Taiwan. And whatever Trump will do will be just fine because SCOTUS made him "mostly" immune. Looks like you're forgetting about the project 2025 agenda, too...
