Saturn 8-22-04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Jim,

Not bad for Saturn's location!! I was out getting the paper this morning and saw Saturn naked eye and started thinking how nice planetary imaging is going to be in another month or so. Keep Sept 9 in mind...Mercury makes it's greatest elongation that morning.

I saw that too. It is an outstanding image!! Whets my appetite for later this year and Jupiter and Saturn...(also Mars after the first of the year).

Theophilus

Wes,

Super image. I have always felt that Theophilus is a very photogenic crater on the moon. You have captured it nicely!!

BTW, when does the 18" arrive?

Ed,

I use the program Meridian, you can find it here:

It gives RA/Dec and a whole bunch more.

orion ED 80mm vs orion 127mm Mak-Cass..need quick

Posted By Paul Maxson

Mauricio,

I love my ED80. I use it mostly for solar imaging, but I have kept sunspots nearly centered for up to 90 seconds with rough alignment. My only complaint is that the dual axis drive corrector is not very responsive. There are times when I hold a button down for up to 15-20 secs before anything happens. If I was doing anything besides solar, I would look at a mount that has a drive that is more responsive to corrective actions.

Good luck on your choice!!
