Republican "Health Care"

I fail to understand the Stockholm Syndrome relationship between R voters and R policy.

No Dave, you obviously lack the depth, quite remarkably and completely, to understand either the possible benefits of R policy or the motivations of R voters.

(I'm assuming that the enumerated points above are actually your views and not simply another plagiarized cut/paste job.)

Your blinders make you the perfect anti-Richard - you are only capable of seeing your own point of view and therefore, you arrogantly label those who disagree as being evil or fools (those poor R voters). Unfortunately, you have exchanged Richard's directness for a kind of snide oiliness.

This type of ignorant hubris, (Stockholm Syndrome... sheesh...), is one reason the Democrat brand is so toxic across much of the Country. Republican voters and moderate independents are justifiably annoyed by half-wits from Hollywood, the press, or even Canada oozing smug inanities about "voting against their own interests" and "being too stupid to see it."

So Bigly Sad

It is sad to me that a site designed for discussing and trading astronomy has more conversations concerning "Politics" than discussing Astronomy.

Politics facilitates day-to-day banter. We enjoy it. There are those on Cloudy Nights who post literally thousands of posts a year on the nuanced and arguably phantom characteristics of this occular or that objective. Then their sycophants will post thousands of anonymous versions of "ditto." Ideological camps form. Debates are re-hashed annually for decades. As much as I enjoy amateur astronomy (and I've got a lot of equipment, much bought here) - I find the never ending and painfully repetitive astro-postings on CN to be bigly boring. I do like talking football over there! 8)

Just my opinion...

I had reason to Google "Glen Plaid" this morning. During this bit of research, I learned (incidentally) that President Ronald Reagan was considered 'un-Presidential' for wearing a gray-and-blue Glen plaid suit on a European trip in 1982.

All I can say is that the standards of "un-Presidential" behavior have taken quite a beating since 1982.

Have a great 4th!

Need help on how to move telescopes

Posted By James Brown

Hi Scott:

I've never owned the types of telescopes your father has, so I can't help you with mirror locking and so forth. I do know that your best bet for selling this equipment is this web site, assuming that you want to sell it. You'll get a much better price than you would on Craig's list or an estate sale. You could place ads here and possibly find some Bay-Area buyers willing to pick up the gear so that you do not need to move it or ultimately ship it.

If you are going to keep the gear, I'm sure someone will be along presently with a link to the owner's manuals or a step-by-step guide.

Finally, images!

Ok, so we had about 8 months of poor weather during the New Moon week. Because of this, despite many attempts, I only managed to get images in July and August, a total of three.

Ngc6888 is the first from July, it as my first run at this with the new Atik One 6.0 camera and the TEC140 with just the filed flattener. I wanted to try to capture a larger image of it and with some detail. This was an LRGB image, with a few hours of Ha blended.

Then Sh2-101, a well photographed object, but worthy of a new set of data. LRGB Ha

Finally, August only allowed for one object, M-27, then the weather forced me to retreat to home. LRGB Ha

Hope you like them. Conditions were not too bad, better than 8 months of nothing. laugh.gif
The Atik One 6.0, the Sony 694 chip, still impresses me and the smaller image size makes it good for objects such as this. at .9 arc sec, it is a good combination for my skies.

Oh, bottom right, there is an icon, like three different size folders, it allows you to select the size of the image. These are at full resolution,150 dpi, love this new site, no restrictions on size.

Hi Floyd:

Very nice!

These are unprocessed, hot off the memory card. I think they look pretty good in the rough! I should have some really fine totality shots when I merge the images shot at different f stops. I had the camera pre-programmed to shoot 7 bracketed images at 1 f-stop intervals, so I could just stand there gawking at the sky while I pressed the remote over and over again. What a great experience! My first total eclipse.

Our group was on the center line north of Torrington WY. We set up on some State-owned ranch land. It was marked "No Trespassing" but a genuinely cool Wyoming State Trooper invited anyone who asked in through the gate.
