Saturn. January 1, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Jim,

Nice image!! The white oval is quite prominant. It would be interesting to break the image into RGB and see what color the oval is brightest in.

Lots of clouds here, more predicted along with rain...we need the rain, so I guess I'll live with it. smile

Opinions on Mak-newts

Posted By Paul Maxson

Just as a side note....one of the finest amatuer planetary images, Damian Peach, sold his C11 to finance a 10" (I beleive) Mak-newt. I will be most interested is seeing his images and hearing his feelings when he gets it. Currently he is mostly using a C925.

Jim,

Very excellent!! I had to put my scopes inside today as we had THUNDERSTORMS!! Someone needs to tell mother nature this is a desert and it's January... LOL!!

BTW, rough calculation shows the two barlow produce about 4.75x or a F/R of about F/42.8. Supurb!!

Open Cluster NGC1528

Jim,

Super nice image!! Congratulations!! Have you tried NGC 2158 yet? It's the little companion to M35. That setting is my favorite star cluster.

Thanks for sharing!

Very nice!! I almost forgot what Saturn looks like with all the clouds around here!! grin

Clear skies but very unstable viewing

Posted By Paul Maxson

Bill,

Just glanced at the jetstream map. The jet stream is howling overhead for you right now which is part (maybe a large part) of your seeing woes. Add to insult, the is just barely moving over Florida....no wonder they get steady seeing... grin

Oh yeah, it is blowing pretty hard over Az (my state) as well...**sigh**

Clear skies!!

The clouds break tomorrow, my little girl has never seen a comet and my version of The Sky doesn't seem to have Machholz. Where should it be on the evening of Thurdsay 1/13 - either jump points or RA/Dec coordinates would be great.

Thanks,
Ed
