A good Memorial Day to you all

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Anybody catch Trump's graduation day "speech" at West Point?  It was the most god-awful and typical of Trump "I'm the victim speech" that you've ever heard with virtually nothing about the achievement of the class itself. After his ludicrous diatribe finished, he had to ask an officer to show him how he could exit the stage and forgot to shake hands with the graduates, a custom practiced by presidents presiding at the ceremony.

For those who missed it:

"What actions are those? "

What about Trump's actions at the West Point graduation with his repeated references to "trophy wives" and "Al Capone"?  If Biden had said that, the right wing silos would be echoing calls for his removal under the 25th amendment...

It is pretty sad that Joe Biden got so many US Servicemen killed and never ever bothered to call the families to apologize for his incompetence that caused the deaths of the soldiers who were children, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, and others to all those families.

Joe Biden was such an abominable excuse for a commander in chief.  What a sickening human being he is, that he has for so long disrespected the soldiers whose deaths he caused in Afghanistan and he doesn't even care.

Joe Biden has never given even 1 shit for the lives of those soldiers.  And why?

Because he's a garbage Democrat, who doesn't care.

He caused their deaths and has completely ignored the families ever since.

What a pile of dogshit is Joe Biden
A gold star mom on Fox? Must be an authority on the speech, huh? I guess Trump got it right on trophy wives and Al Capone afterall?
I wonder what she thought of Trump when he called those in the military, "suckers and losers". On the other hand, being a Fox fan, she probably never heard of it in the first place.

I wonder what she thought of Trump when he failed to attend the dignified return of the servicemen killed in Lithuania because he went golfing instead?

But being a Fox fan, she probably didn't know that, either...

SCOTUS, Not The US Calvary, Slaughters Indians Again

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Hmm, nobody thinks it's odd that SCOTUS, as one of its purported considerations for determination of a case for a hearing is a split ruling from an appeals court at the federal level, somehow ignores a nearly evenly split appeals court in this case but seems to always decide to hear a case from the Trump administration that may, at the most, have one dissenting appeals court justice and usually a Trump appointee at that?

Where the hell were the Court’s liberals?   I guess religious freedom is unimportant to them?

We must also take notice that Rod and Clarence Thomas are marching in lockstep, linked arm to arm, in support of religious freedom.   Awesome!
"We must also take notice that Rod and Clarence Thomas are marching in lockstep,..."

Well, let's not get carried away here Jim!ermm

That said, there's really no way to know what Thomas is thinking here since he's his same generally uncommunicative self with the actual written consent coming from Gorsuch who seems to have a history of backing Indian sovereignty in these sorts of issues. While one could argue Thomas simply concurs with whatever Gorsuch wrote in his dissent, I doubt it and I suspect Thomas has the same sort of weirdly dissociated thinking that has characterized his single contrarian opinions that we have seen in a number of SCOTUS decisions.

It's also interesting that Alito recused himself from this case-- not sure why- but, as we know, there were other politically charged cases wherein he seemingly had a obvious conflict of interest and did not.

"The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an appeal from Apaches who are fighting to halt a massive copper mining project on federal land in Arizona that they hold sacred."

"The justices left in place lower court decisions allowing the transfer of the Tonto National Forest land, known as Oak Flat, to Resolution Copper, which plans to mine what it says is the second-largest known copper deposit in the world."

"The Trump administration has said it will push to complete the transfer."

"Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in dissent that it was a “grievous mistake” not to take up the appeal."

“Recognizing Oak Flat’s significance, the government has long protected both the land and the Apaches’ access to it,” Gorsuch wrote, joined by Justice Clarence Thomas. “No more. Now, the government and a mining conglomerate want to turn Oak Flat into a massive hole in the ground.”

Comment: SCOTUS drops everything it's doing to hear virtually anything the Trump administration drags before it, post haste, but this doesn't even get the time of day...Disgusting!

US Federal Court Blocks Trump's Tariffs

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"Trump tariffs reinstated by appeals court for now"

“This is merely a procedural step as the court considers the government’s request for a longer stay pending appeal,” said Jeffrey Schwab, a lawyer for the business plaintiffs, in a statement."

“We are confident the Federal Circuit will ultimately deny the government’s motion shortly thereafter, recognizing the irreparable harm these tariffs inflict on our clients,” Schwab said."

Meanwhile the Trump WH had this to say:

“The Supreme Court must put an end to this,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday afternoon. “These judges are threatening to undermine the credibility of the United States on the world stage.”

“We are living under a judicial tyranny,” White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller wrote Thursday morning in response to the ruling, escalating his initial claim that “the judicial coup is out of control.”

Uh, huh, any ruling the WH doesn't like is suddenly proof of "judicial tyranny"...

Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 grants the president authority to take action, including tariffs, against foreign countries that engage in unfair trade practices.

That's for a maximum of 150 days.

BTW, I wonder if Davis and his fellow trumptoids realize the national and global markets go up only when Trump pulls a TACO and/or his policies are rescinded by the courts and drop significantly if he forges ahead with them or gets a friendly ruling in the courts.

That said,  "The U.S. economy shrank at a 0.2% annual pace from January through March, the first drop in three years, as President Donald Trump’s trade wars disrupted business, the government said Thursday in a slight upgrade of its initial estimate."

"..., the president could use Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose tariffs of up to 15%, but they would be limited to 150 days, according to Goldman Sachs."
