So Now We're Gonna Have Tariff Rebates?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Undoubtedly, they'll be signed by Donald Trump!

https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/trump-rebate-checks-tariff-revenue-debt/?intcid=CNR-02-0623

If it happens, it's tacit acknowledgement that everybody's costs have gone up because of the tariffs.

Tariffs have cost GM and VW Of America more than a billion a piece thus far. I'm sure their management and their shareholders are loving the tariffs, don't ya think?...

Non-Citizen Voting: A Myth

Trump: They asked me for a license plate, as they should, prior to entering the voting booth:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlkJI4G6KJ4
Pakman is absolutely correct: If Biden had said it, there'd be an impeachment watch on Faux news in addition to Davis ranting about it here...

Non-Citizen Voting: A Myth

"Despite grand claims, a new report shows noncitizen voting hasn't materialized"

The link to the study:   https://electioninnovation.org/research/noncitizen-analysis/

I doubt Rich and his fellow MAGAs will read it or hear about it in any of their right media outlets...

Are There Actual Signed Trade Deals?

"A key US inflation gauge rose last month as Trump’s tariffs lifted goods prices"

"Prices rose 2.6% in June compared with a year ago, the Commerce Department said Thursday, up from an annual pace of 2.4% in May. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, prices rose 2.8% in the past year, the same as the previous month, which was revised higher. The figures are above the Fed’s 2% goal."

“The above-target rise in core prices in June, upward revisions to previous months’ data and the sharp rise in core goods inflation will do little to ease the Fed’s concerns about tariff-driven inflation,” said Harry Chambers, assistant economist at Capital Economics, a forecasting firm. “If these pressures persist, as we expect, a September cut looks unlikely.”

Ok, but the result is still the same: Trump's planned tariff on Mexico due to become effective on August 1st won't be happening tomorrow.

As far as noticing the increased costs of steaks and meats at the grocery store:

Nope, I guess that's one of the many benefits of not eating red meats!smile

"Appellate court judges expressed broad skepticism Thursday over President Donald Trump’s legal rationale for his most expansive round of tariffs."

"Members of the 11-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington appeared unconvinced by the Trump administration’s insistence that the president could impose tariffs without congressional approval, and it hammered its invocation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to do so."

“IEEPA doesn’t even mention the word ‘tariffs’ anywhere,” Circuit Judge Jimmie Reyna said, in a sign of the panel’s incredulity to a government attorney’s arguments.?"

Tsk tsk, Trump will run to SCOTUS who will accede to his whims, just as the cons do on almost every case before it. Either they give it an emergency request and/or shadow docket approval as they have pretty much routinely done even though they had previously denied answering important issues/requests from the Biden administration for some of the same issues they rushed through for Trump. Far from a guardrail, SCOTUS is a farce when it comes to Trump. About the only thing they "may" decide against him is the birthright citizenship case which is so clear cut they shouldn't even agree to hear it in the first place but, frankly, SCITUS is so absurdly and conservatively partisan that it wouldn't surprise me if they decided that one in his favor, too...

"The White House also said Trump signed an executive order, raising tariffs on Canada from 25% to 35% effective Friday."

Trump's tariffs slam the markets and the job reports:

"US stocks sank on Friday after President Trump officially hit virtually every US trading partner with sweeping tariff hikes, while the June jobs report showed signs of a labor market slowdown."

"The retreat in stocks came as the July jobs report released Friday morning showed weaker-than-expected jobs growth, with the economy adding some 73,000 jobs, versus 104,000 expected. The prior two readings were also revised down sharply, indicating the labor market has been slowing down over the past three months. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2%."

"The manufacturing sector, a focus for Trump in delivering many of his economic policies, lost 11,000 jobs in July after shedding 15,000 in June."

"The Commerce Department’s personal consumption expenditures price index increased more than expected last month, rising to a 2.6 percent annual increase. The Labor Department’s consumer price index popped to a 2.7 percent annual from a previous reading of 2.4 percent."

"Both metrics have been moving away from the Federal Reserve’s target rate of 2 percent inflation in the last two readings."

Is the WH gonna blame that on Biden, too?...

Don't like the message? Fire the messenger!

"President Trump on Friday directed his team to fire the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics following a dismal jobs report he blamed squarely on the appointee of former President Biden."

"Trump said on Truth Social that the commissioner, Erika McEntarfer, had “faked the Jobs Numbers” before the 2024 election in order to boost former Vice President Kamala Harris’s White House bid."

“In my opinion, today’s Jobs Numbers were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad,” Trump said."
