Jupiter 04/27/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

I feel like I hit the motherload last night. This is probably one of the top 2-3 images I have made so far!! I'm tickled that Jupiter had his exciting face towards me last night. Today it is quite breezy and supposed to be windy. Glad I got Jupiter when I did!!

I just thought I'd drop another tickler about the Processing Exercise webpage. There are 20 submissions so far.

Thanks for the contributions and thanks for looking!!

Nothing remarkable except for the transit of Europa.

UV Filter

Posted By Paul Maxson

I think I'm a bit confused about a filter issue. I have two Optica filters, one labeled UV and the other IR. I would assume that these filter transmitt UV and IR light respectively. The odd thing is when I shot images of Venus last night, the IR image turned out dark blue and the UV image turned out orange. To me, that sounds backwards, or am I missing something? I think I'd like to get a good UV filter for planetary imaging...is the Lumicon 48mm UV-370 UV Filter what I should be looking at for my C925 and CCD imaging or does someone have another suggestion.

Thanks a bunch!!

Jupiter and Venus from 05/01/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here is Jupiter is pretty decent conditions, despite a brisk breeze. We have a strong High center on top of us, which makes for stable, although hot, conditions. The key is to get to thermal equilibrium. The image is a bit dark, probably from the processing technique. Also, I have a link to Venus shot the same evening.

Seeing was pretty decent last night and Jupiter was sure cooperating!! The satellite coming off the left limb is Ganymede...see the second image for more.

Needless to say, I am quite happy with the way the 9.25" is performing!!

Seeing was a bit better than the previous night, but still not as good as three nights ago. The GRS always makes a Jupiter image special.

Jupiter shot in fair conditions with the 9.25".

Gain - 50%
Brightness - 50%
Saturation - 100%

Brightness level in K3 - 160

Jupiter May 8 and 9 and Venus on May 8

Posted By Paul Maxson

Here are images from the evening of May 8 and May 9. The May 8th images were shot in very breezy conditions. May 9 is much more interesting!!

Predictably, a weather disturbance is moving through by late this evening or tomorrow...hopefully I can image tonight successfully.

Here is a link to Venus. Hard to believe that in lass than a month it transits the Sun!! Good weather to those who can view it!!
