Solid shaft or hollow???

I'm no engineer so take what I say with a grain of salt - the Losmandy mounts are hollow shafted while the Celestron CI-700/CGE are solid shafted. All are very stable so in an of itself I don't think Solid shafts necessarily get you a more stable mount. I recall 6 or 7 years ago when Celestron first came out with the CI-700 as a replacement for the Losmandy CG-11 mount, Scott Losmandy (pretty sure it was him...) wrote a piece explaining that with the stresses that a GEM gets, Solid shafts offer no increase in strength. Then again, if you have the capabilities, why not try it and see?

Antares 8.6mm W70 Uncovered...

Just tried with my 25mm version. I can tell you the lenses in this size are indeed in the housing (if I remove the retaining ring under the barrel the lenses and spacers will slide out - this ring is screwed directly into the W70 housing). This is not a 66 deg WA slipped into the outer overing of the W70. The 25mm is a different design then the other W70's though (I believe 8 lens) - so this could account for the difference.

Now my 14mm W70, DOES appear to have a black barrel pressed into the outer W70 covering - and unlike the 25mm I can screw the whole lens assembly out of the barrel. My guess is that at least with this eyepiece it would also be a "repackaged" 66wa.

So my guess is other then the 25mm, these things just have fancy outer coverings. I wonder if they use different field stops to account for the 1-2 deg difference of the marketing and the slight MM difference in FL?

UO I don't really consider a "manufacturer". The others at least design there own proprietary eyepieces even if they don't build them themselves.

With those scopes either the G-11 or the CGE/CI-700 mounts would be the min. To much IMO for the GM-8 or EQ-6.

70mm Pronto Versus 10" Dob

You'd be suprized at what a 70mm can see. I own much larger scopes, but I love hunting down DS objects with my little WO 66mm APO. And with some extended objects - because of the wider FOV, they actually have an advantage.
