Nice image Mike!

I've just started using the 12 bit mode on my new camera as well, and boy does it make a difference! I'm used to grainy, noisy 8-bit images, and when I switch to 12 bit the noise just...goes...away...

I bet you'll never go back to 8 bit.

The hardest part is finding software that can handle it without wanting to downconvert it back to 8 bit.

Ron, nice set of images!

If you're having alignment problems, talk to Iceman over on cloudynights. His website (www.iceinspace.com) has a copy of a program I wrote a while back called ppmcentre that will take the hassle out of aligning - it locates and centres the planet in each frame for you, before you load the frames into registax.

I know the Lu cameras are getting a lot of attention because DP is using them, but they're not the only ones in the market.

The situation is quite different to how it was even 6 months ago, there are other high quality camera options out there in addition to the Lumenera, e.g. cameras from Point Grey Research which work with both commercial and free software.

We shouldn't get too focussed on just the one manufacturer...

Are your frames each 900k in size? If you're using colour then this is likely. That makes frame 2319 very close to the 2Gb limit if you're on a FAT32 filesystem.

Hi Chase, we need more info on your laptop(s) - the old and new. cpu, speed, ram, hard disk, that sort of thing.

Also, are you running the same operating system on the new laptop as on the old one?

Do you have antivirus applications on the new laptop that's different to the old one?

The more info you can give us the better.
