Moderators on The "Other" Astronomy Forums/Website

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I don't even bother looking at that other website anymore. Not necessarily because of the moderators but I have seen where they have gotten underneath other peoples skins. I've seen other stuff that's turned me off about it. I certainly don't miss it...

Just Checked That Other Website...

It's a shame we don't have active forums in the AM. I've heard everything from it's 15.00 bucks a year, coming from people who own expensive equipment and have the means to do it, to "the vendors have to pay too much". While there's some useful discussion on that other site, there's too much nonsense for my tastes...

Most people probably spend close to $15 eating a fast food lunch during one of their work weeks. If that is the reason, it is a sorry one indeed.
How true. I was up at Mt Pinos observing a while ago and this guy sets up next to me and starts complaining to another amateur about the 15 bucks for the AM so he'll only go to the other site. This guy had a Porsche SUV, a couple of AP refractors, imaging cameras and computers, nothing low rent and he's bitching about $15 dollars.
I think Mel's likely correct as well about people lacking the testerone to use their own names but they're not going to have a problem if they do. I think the AM made a mistake in dropping the moderators for the forums but I'm sure there's pros and cons with that, too.

I hadn't viewed the other astro website for quite awhile, not even on a cloudy evening, so I thought I might take a peek. You know, it's pretty much how and why I left it...
Let me see,  "I sent my mirror out for refiguring to so and so and it's been two years now, what should I do?" Or, I sent my mirror to the same guy and I never got it back so I bought a new one" Or, "my coulter mirror has a chip in it, what can I do?" And, "What's a coulter?"...
Then, it's tell me what's wrong with my mirror time with just about every screwy-looking diffraction pattern you've ever seen, most of which can be explained by the seeing...

I just finished watching it on CNN cable news as a special presentation. They'll probably have an encore presentation but I don't know when. It's awesome...

Best part is the only narration is from the films themselves, CAPCOM, and Walter Cronkite and the other TV commentators of the time. Pretty stunning footage.
Did you catch the part where one of the engineers is talking to another one about the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick accident which occured at the same time? He said something to the effect of, "it's the biggest story, besides us!" Also, in the background, "news from the battlefield in Vietnam today"...A lot of history there in snippets...

CNN Presentation: Apollo 11 Moon Landing In HD

Wow! CNN got a hold of original film footage of the Apollo 11 moon-mission that had been in cold storage for 50 years and brought it up to date with today's specs and you just have to see it to believe it. Looks even better than Ron Howard's film, "Apollo 13",plus it's real footage. What a masterpiece...

$3 Million...

Posted By Rod Kaufman

A woman trips and fall on a yellow wet floor sign in a casino and gets 3 million:
What, people can't be expected to be responsible enough to observe their surroundings? Even with this sign down on the floor, it's still clearly evident:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/ohio-woman-who-slipped-on-collapsed-wet-floor-sign-awarded-3-million-by-jury
And most knees go arthritic anyway from all the wear and tear on the joint. I'll bet her opposite uninjured knee probably shows some, too.
If I were a defense attorney on this case, I would have the same sign on the same flooring under the same lighting conditions and have that staring at the jury every day of the trial along with another woman of the same age and physical characteristics of the plaintiff walking around and on top of it...
I hope this verdict gets reduced by a judge or is appealed by the casino...
