Trump says U.S. cattle ranchers ‘don’t understand’ tariffs

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"National Cattlemen’s Beef Association CEO Colin Woodall said that his organization “cannot stand behind the President while he undercuts the future of family farmers and ranchers.”

In response:  "President Donald Trump said U.S. cattle ranchers “don’t understand” how they have benefitted from his tariffs."! And then added: "They also have to get their prices down, because the consumer is a very big factor in my thinking, also!” Trump wrote on Truth Social."

"The admonition came after some ranchers have openly criticized Trump’s proposal to import beef from Argentina in order to bring down prices for American consumers."

"At least one Republican senator, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, has openly pushed back on Trump’s proposal."

“Government intervention in the beef market will hurt our cattle ranchers,” she wrote in an X post Tuesday."

Worth a mention, given our 22 years of context! I think Rod got my joke, but it was subtle.  Sorry if you thought I was unaware  of the price of beef!  😳
Here's what I've been looking at over the  weekend Jim:    Galaxies, galaxies, galaxies and still more galaxies! Got that?! Galaxies! I'm still jazzed about the number and overall degree of clarity I could see over the course of 5 hours of observation dedicated to observing galaxies in Andromeda, Pegasus, Pisces, and Cetus.

So, Jim, why in the world would you be be doing "all the shopping" and looking at GROCERY PRICES when you could be looking at GALAXIES? I don't believe it! I mean geez man, get a grip, Jim!!!

Grocery Prices

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"Newly released inflation figures show that President Donald Trump was wrong when he repeatedly claimed this month that grocery prices are “down” or “way down.”

"They were up, again, last month. And they have increased since the start of his presidency."

" There have been particularly sharp increases since September 2024 in the prices of coffee (up 18.9%) and beef and veal (up 14.7%). Overall consumer prices are up 3.0% since September 2024."

"...food economists like Michigan State University professor David Ortega say two of Trump’s signature policies – tariffs on imported goods (including food) and a crackdown on undocumented immigrants (who make up a large percentage of the US farm workforce) – have clearly contributed to the increases in grocery prices this year."

Trump's Trade "Deal" With China

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Basically, we get get what we already had: a restoration of the soybean market that we already had pre-Trump tariffs and the same higher costs of doing business with China due to Trump's tariffs. All of this, according to Trump, is a "12" on a 1-10 scale!...

DOGE Staffer To Replace Admiral Leading Navy’s Research

Posted By Rod Kaufman

WTF!     "The senior head of a Navy office that helps organize critical research and funding for the service has been replaced by a 33-year-old former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee who previously pressed for thousands of job cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)."

"Rear Adm. Kurt Rothenhaus was booted as chief of naval research for Rachel Riley, a former partner at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company who joined HHS as part of the unofficial Department of Government Efficiency in January, The Bulwark first reported Thursday."

Trump: GOP Blown Out Last Night Because His Name Wasn't On The Ballot!

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"Trump argued polls shows the shutdown, which Wednesday set a record for the longest in history, “was a big factor, negative, for the Republicans.” He also suggested his absence on the ballot was a factor."

Hmm, how about high prices, tariffs and and "only the best people" in his government? Military in the streets of US cities? ICE? How about TRUMP?!...

"The oral arguments come later Rod.  We’ve covered this."

No, it's decided, just like the other 17 cases wherein the justices, like beerman, claim it's not precedent, and then castigate lower court judges for not following the decision as if it is precedent!

"Do you have an issue with sex identification on IDs in general, or just in this case?"

I don't particularly have an issue in either instance, although the liberal justices do in this case but it's yet another example of SCOTUS deciding for Trump on the emergency docket...

How SCOTUS Will Decide On Trump's Tariffs

Trump pulls a TACO and reduces tariffs on coffee, beef, bananas, and other fruits:

"Trump and other senior administration officials have previewed broader tariff exemptions that could cut levies on popular food products across the board."

"The New York Times reported Thursday that Trump was preparing changes to reciprocal tariffs expected to include carve-outs for beef and citrus products, and extend beyond a previous executive order in which the president tasked administration officials with identifying foodstuffs that were not grown in the US for exemptions."

CNN's analysis:  "Trump’s latest tariff TACO probably won’t make your life more affordable"

"The latest TACO comes after voters, worried about affordability, gave Republicans a drubbing in recent off-year elections."
"Nevertheless, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the new exemptions generally won’t help improve affordability."
“It depends on what the importers do with the tariff,” he said in a CNBC interview on Friday."

“It is not clear that lowering tariffs will lower prices — it depends on what retailers think they can get away with."
