First reasonable Jupiter image

Posted By Paul Maxson

Tim,

A very nice image. The ED100 can do some remarkable images. I have noticed that my ED100 images are always redder than my C925 images as well. In fact sometimes I have had to manually adjust the colour on the monitor in K3CCD...something I really don't like to do. I noticed the same affect when I was imaging the sun with the ED100....the image was powerfully blue. After K3 adjusted the colours it was more natural. Then I used the camera on Jupiter in the 9.25" last night and it was way yellowish-red. It must have something to do with colour absorbsion through the lens vs the SCT setup.

Hi Wes,

I was wondering where you went...that's a sweet image! It really does give a fly-by look.

Hope you get better weather soon....Mars is a coming!!

Alan,

That is truly awesome! Not only is Jupiter fabulous, but Ganymede is a sharp disk with obvious detail. Congratulations!!

LPOD ?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is a message posted by Chuck Wood on the Yahoo lunarobservers group about LPOD.

"Michael and other lunar observers - The software that
I use to post LPOD failed starting June 1 and I
haven't been successful at getting it to work. I am
now exploring two possible temporary work-arounds and
hope to get LPOD back online in a day or two. I am
also hoping to rejuvenate LPOD with new software that
permits additional images, discussions and other
features.
And aren't we lucky that the May 31st LPOD - that has
been "today's LOOD" for 5 days is so interesting!

Thanks for the concern!

Chuck
"

At least we know he's ok.

Ganymede in Transit

Alan,

Very nice! I remember when we were happy to get a little black dot on film. It's hard to believe we are regularily imaging surface details on the satelites.

Congratulations!!

Back from Mexico!

Mike,

Sounds like you seure had a great time, even if the astronomy part didn't work out well. I just ordered the Lum750C camera from Paolo, so I'm about to start learning as well.

BTW, if you do start that B&B in Baja and need a caretaker....let me know... grin I even have my own telescope... LOL!!

Jupiter in the daytime

Posted By Paul Maxson

Luca,

Funny you should try that. I shot some pre-sunset images of Jupiter a few days ago as well. I haven't had a chance to totally process them and if you don't mind an image with no data on it, here is a preliminary image. This was shot on the evening of June 4 about an hour before sunset.

Makes for good practice for Venus and Mercury...

Paolo shipped my Lum750C camera yesterday so in a few days I'll hopefully be "Lum'ing" as well. grin

Jupiter May 30 2005

Wes,

Wow...nice image! If that is what the Lum produces with 225 frames in mediocre seeing...I'm looking forward to getting the camera...and seeing what you will do with your combination in 8/10 seeing!!
