If you want to have fun at the star party, bring a large refractor.

A test for you and help for me!

Dob:
Try a Nag T6 13-11-7 + a TV 2x Barlow for Parfocal barlowing. The T6 are also good for binoviewing.

Taks:
Get a Tak or Tec eyepiece turret and a complete set of Tak LE's, then use your favorite 5 ep's per session. I have tried this turret at several star parties and its very nice. Wish it were mine.

Here is a photo of a TAK turret with the TMB monos.

collimating 7" Meade Mak

Posted By john raymond

Daniel,

Why do you believe the scope to be out of collimation? How do your stars look?

I had poor images in my scope: with the stock Meade prism diagonal, and with a 2" mirror diagonal when the mirror came loose. (Easy fix)

The scope is excellent after cooling off and when seeing is good. Works best here in the summer when the night is as warm as the day and its hazy and humid.

After 8 years the goto still works but the keypad buttons are worn. I've noticed a lot of ads this year: Wanted Meade LX200 Keypad.

Im very interested in instructions for removing the weight also.

Regards
John

Email response times

Posted By john raymond

I had nearly the same experience. I saw an ad and replied. The seller responded, and we made the deal. I wrote that I will send the payment the next day, in the morning. Here is the next email:

"LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT IT AND WHEN U ARE SENDING THE M.O"

follwed by this 20 mins later

"i marked it sold but am gonna pull that if i dont hear from you on when u sending m.o"

Now Im eating dinner and going about my business thinking I made a sure deal. I did check my emails a little later and replied again, with the actual date and time I planned on sending the payment. (which was the next morning. Did I have to spell it out?)

I did recieve the item I wanted, but never recived another email, not a rating. I just looked and the guy has 5x ratings recieved to given. So check the ratings first- wildly lopsided ratings - beware! People who lack the courtesy to leave ratings usually lack courtesy period.

Predicting the moon position

Pete

Try this for observing and identifying lunar features:

For position, phase, occulted stars, for any date or location, try Skytools 2.

Good luck,
John

Eyepiece recommendation for Swarovski scope

Posted By john raymond

First make sure the eyepiece you want will come to focus in this scope. Best to try some out before buying.

My recommendations:

Panoptic 24mm (20x)
Nagler Type 6 / 13mm (36x)
Nagler Type 6 / 7mm (68x)
Nagler Type 6 / 5mm (96x)
Nagler Type 6 / 3.5mm (137x)
