All these "my eyepiece is better then yours" threads of late are all relative - Only YOU can determine if its worth the extra dollars. Keep in mind the difference in most cases between premium vs. average and good eyepieces are rather subtle. In many cases only experienced observers will see/notice the difference.

When you hit that point you'll wonder why you never noticed the Naglers were so much better. For me the fit and finish, quality build, versatility of a design able to go from f4 to anything longer, and the resell value all add up to being worth it. But that's me. I learned a long time ago - granddad was right - you get what you pay for in the long run....

Edmunds RKE 28mm

I agree the 28 is a great eyepiece. Not a wide field, but a good alternative to a plossl in that FL. I've owned the whole RKE line - twice. The 28 is the best of the bunch IMO. Great in the f/10 scopes still great at f/6 - like the old 6"f6 Edmund Newt...

Send them to Televue. They are one of the few - if only - eyepiece makers that will fix and recondition their product. Give 'em a call.

Largest actual FOV in a 2" eyepiece is around 1.186deg (with 46mm field stop) for this scope.

For example the 41mm Panoptic (68 deg AFOV) has the widest true FOV - which is 9mm less FL -which correlates to increased magnnification - yet same actual FOV as the Axiom. You gain nothing in FOV but loose magnification.

Same is true for the 31 Nagler to the Panoptic....

Ultima C11 Questions

The "Ribbed" ultima's (8 and 11) were made from about 88 to around 94 or 95 (there wer the later 9.25 "smooth" forked Ultima's). Many (myself included) say the 8" version to be the best all around forked 8" sct ever made. Optically they were the same - Celestron says they do not have "grades" for different models - as all the other 8" Celestrons and the OTA's would be interchangable (same drilled/tapped holes, etc.). Same goes for the 11". Rumors abounded however that the "best" optics from a particular run would be slated for the flagship "Ultima" line - how true only Celestron knows but ain't tell'n smile

As for the Mechanics - The Ribbed forks are quite a bit heavier - dampening vibrations much faster. The 8" version had the extra advantage of being just shortened 11" forks, so that the bearing surface was the same for both the 11" and 8" sct's. The base's are the same as far as holes/wedge mounting placements, but the electronics where much different - except the "Powerstar PEC" I believe used the same board.

1. I'd suggest sending the whole thing back to Celestron for a cleaning, collimation, and mount re-greasing. There are others who will do it, but why not go back to where it was born smile
2. Equipment, well right here of course silly. Amart for used stuff, or Anacortes for new.
3. Sorry cant really convert those mounts. You can buy a "push to" DSC set up though. Of course you can always remove the OTA and put it on a different mount....

Focuser Knobs - Rubber Grip Issues

I've owned lots of scopes and bino's that use these rubber grips - happens to them all eventually. The rubber both dries out as well as UV degradation...As nice as they look and feel, I almost always replace them with machined wheels if possible. Although I think Floyds idea is quite a good compromise!

This was one of the reasons I liked the WO 66-80mm scopes over most of the other clones which use these rubber grips.

If your willing to give up 10mm aperture, the WO ZS110 is a much better deal IMO - A TMB Triplet, CNC Tube, Rotating 2.7" focuser, 11:1FF, Sliding dew shield, and a faster F-Ratio, for just a few dollars more...

And I can confirm it is not vaporware - perfect star test and no color.
