Hi:

I am wondering what to do with the remains of a 16inch Meade Starfinder DOB I have stripped and converted into a strut scope. I can't imagine anyone has any interest in this but I thought I would try it on Craiglist.

Some possible uses:

1. A temporary culvert

2. A toy cannon

3. A fake water heater for a stage prop.

4. A look out post for a bank guard...

5.???

I think it is headed for the dump :-(

Hi:

Looking for suggestions on finishing the baltic birch plywood on my dob conversion. So far Varathane is what has been suggested but I am wondering if there are other durable finishes that any of you have been happy with??

Love this one...

I saw an article in the local paper yesterday where MLB and the Yankees are supposedly looking into the possibility of voiding Giambi's contract because of his admission of using Steriods etc over the last several years.

Apparently baseball prefers to keep its head in the sand and ignore its serious drug problems. Rather than apparently chastizing Giambi for coming clean, they should be applauding him and offering help to anyone else who has the courage to address their own personal situation.

Baseball used to be my game but with the money thing and the drug thing, I find I am unable to enjoy it. In Ken Burns series Baseball, there is a quote from Bill Veeck that goes something like:

"Baseball must be a great game, the owners haven't been able to kill it."

Well, I have to say, the owners and players without a real commissioner, they have killed it.

Hi: Not being an E-I, I really can't say why they would be building this their particular equipment but Herbert Highstone did provide some enlighting information on the usefulness of Huygens eyepieces in scope with a small relative aperture (slow). Apparently they are decent in an F/15 scope.

For Sale: Antares 99% Dielectric 2" Diagonal

Just wondering how this diagonal can have both silver coatings and a dielectic overcoating, I am assuming it has a silver coating and a protective coating that just happens to be a dielectic (as most probably are.)

A while back I garage saled an apparently new Olympus C-765, 4meg, 10x zoom with an "ED" lens...

Looking for something quick with some zoom and for $50 it seemed like the thing. I am finally starting to get the hang of the thing, adjusting the brightness by eye before shooting etc. I really like the LCD in the view finder, similar to an SLR in that regard.

I am pretty happy with this shot, the bird was probably 30 feet away in the tree, hand held...

PS: I sure wish my CP 4500 has that LCD viewfinder, I have a 3X ED lens for it but the lens blocks the view finder and it is essentially impossible to use the monitor screen in daylight...

Ivan and Alex have given you some good advice but here is something more to consider:

There are many reasons that the other party may not respond to your Mail. You seem to be assuming it is because they too lazy or just didn't take the time to respond.

However it is also very possible that they never got your email for any number of reasons or that they sent you an Email and you did not receive it. Or maybe they got 100 Emails and couldn't reply to them all or maybe .....

Astromart provides us all with opportunties to buy and sell our equipment. Those momemts waiting for a reply when I have made the decision to buy can be exciting and nerve racking at the same time. If there is no reply, that energy just sort of fizzles out rather than being released so it can be frustrating.

But, that frustion is my own and if I never received a response, there is no way to know why so I just let it pass as one of those small mysteries of life.

There is an internet proverb:

"Never assume malice when ignorance or miscommunication is a reasonable explanation..."

I have an old C-5 OTA as well as a Solar Filter for it. I will try to remember to measure it this evening when I get home.

OK I measured both the filter and the OTA.

The OD of the OTA where the filter fits is right at 5.750".

The filter itself is a Thousand OAKs glass filter. The filters Aluminum body seems to have an ID of 6.00 inches and has a layer of felt to keep it snug on the scope.

WHat scope are you hoping to fit??

As others have pointed out, this was a definite NO-NO, ratings are for completed transactions only.

I hope that you contact Herb and ask him if he can remove your negative rating you gave.
