Foam Needed

A few years ago I bought some 1/4" medium density white foam that I used to line my refractor box. Due to a computer crash, the information was lost as to suppliers. Also, with that purchase I obtained some 2" thick foam for EP cases. Can anyone lead me to a source of said foam?

Copying Pentax

Just wondering if anyone has tried to duplicate the Pentax XW EPs? There was a lot of chat about the Ethos, but it seems that the Pentax line would be a target as well. Not interested much in increasing my stable since I have settled on Naglers; plus, my next and likely last EP will be either a 26 Nagler or 28 Uwan. (You do believe me that only one more EP will satisfy?)

Do I/Can I Use a Dioptrx?

Perhaps I had my chance at Okie-Tex in 09, but that has passed. Is there any reasonable way to determine whether a Dioptrx will help me? Right now bright stars flare in the EP. Is this a sign that the Dioptrx will be beneficial? What other signs may I use to help understand this question?

Off-Axis Mask to Determine Pickering Scale

I have found that using a 5" off-axis mask on my dob allows me to determine the approximate Pickering scale for my sky conditions. This in combination with a star test gives me a decent estimate for seeing. What I didn't do tonight is adequately cool my mirror which resulted in some obvious tube currents noted in the star test. Not sure how much this affects the Pickering determination. Given the above circumstances the Pickering reading for tonight was 5 with an estimated magnitude of +4.5 at 35 degrees above the horizon to the north.

Orion XT8 and 2" eyepieces

Our Club has an 8' Orion "Original" and though the focuser appears to accept a 2" eyepiece and is disassemblable, however, it does not. It appears the the current XT8s that Orion is selling does have a 2" focuser. Good luck.

Having listened to a friend describe how a group of kids were having a blast shining red lasers at road signs at night while driving, it isn't a quantum leap for abuse of more powerful tools to occur. While the laser provides some useful functions, the potential for accidental misuse or abuse far outweighs their value.

Went out about 10:50 friday and almose immediately witnessed a grazer with nice tail, then about 25 minutes gap but was rewarded with a modest fireball that had a slight green tinge. To the SSW from Simpsonville SC. Lasted 2-3 seconds.

Ron; I started a thread a few days ago on filter selection which contains a wealth of information from our experienced contributors. Plus it became apparent that with filters, commonly larger is better since you do loose light with a filter.

Astro binoculars?
