Allsky cams, SX Oculus or Moonglow?

It looks like we finlly have two offerings for allsky cams from reasonably stable companies. The Starlight Xpress Oculus is new, fully digital, and 2.5X the price of the analog Moonglow allsky camera. Oculus is 16-bit monochrome, the Moonglow is NTSC/PAL color. The SX camera produces higher resolution images and goes deeper in terms of faint meteors, but both can capture major fireballs.

Which would you choose as a sky condition monitor for an observatory?

CIA Director Brennan is sworn in with his hand on a copy of the U.S. Constitution that he specifically requested from the National Archive. It is a draft copy that does not include the Bill of Rights or any subsequent amendments.

Bank deposits are safe, we have the FDIC

This chart is an interesting look at the FDIC's resources versus the deposits they claim to insure, and the total exposure of the U.S. banking system when derivatives are included. Now to be fair, the FDIC claims it has a $500B "lifeline" from the Federal reserve, but using it would involve a lot of time and chicanery.

Like Alfred E. Neuman said, "What me worry?" 8)

Unbelievable, an entire city on lockdown over a lone, 19 year old punk. Thousands of police dressed in camo, riding in tanks, forcing their way into homes. People ordered not to use their cell phones, to stay inside like inmates in an institution.

The Western Colorado Astronomy Club is hosting its annual star party on the Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction CO, June 7-8.

Yes, lots of other star parties that weekend, but if you are in the area or passing through on I-70 that weekend, come on by. If you haven't seen it, the Monument is unique and worth a visit all by itself. Zenith skies from the observing sites are typically 21.3 on the SQM, and creature comforts are only ten minutes away.
