Yeah Lee, These little cars are pumped up now. I've been driving down the highway doing around 85 with my 350 cubic inch motor in my sport pickup,Chevey ofcourse and one of these little babies buzzed pass like I was sitting still. I had plenty of petal left but I was'nt as in big of hurry as this guy.
They might look like a bug but they don't build em like they used to, these little guy's will fly now.

Meade LXD-75 tripod

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Fred, I guess you've noticed that the Meade LXD75 is'nt really popular with the folks here. I also was upset for a while but they actually done good by me and replaced the mount and gave me another autostar to boot. They even put all the new updates into it for me.

I am now having a blast with my LXD75 mount and tripod, everything is centered in the eyepiece on every object I go to. As far as stability, mine is as solid as a rock. I am a happy camper with this mount and tripod. I don't have any problems at all with slop or vibrations. I hope this helped, I've noticed that people have some kind of problem with about any kind of set-up they own. But since I have had my replacement I have not had a single problem, knock on wood.
Regards, Darrell

Need Advice on Upgrading / Accessorizing My LX200

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Jim, It look's like you're doing alright, just get a good 2" diagonal. If you're using naglers go ahead and get a good brand, thats a whole new thread in itself. Just remember that if it's a decent diagonal it's pretty much invisible. I never can figure out why they don't want to put a good diagonal on to start, but where would their extra money come from if they did? I guess they want us to buy their premium type diagonal. I like the William Optics and will stay with it. There's about a billion other ones that are great also. Just do a little research as I know you will.
Happy hunting, Darrell

worth going to!

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi James, there's all kinds of reasons for using all kinds of different scopes, portability for travel, weight etc.

I have both a 10" and 12" and use them both. Folks will say that view's are just a little brighter in a 12", thats the reason for getting it in the first place. Just because I thought it was worth the expense for me, don't let me talk you into spending hard earned money.

You will get something like 44% more light from the 12", that aint too bad. I noticed the very first second what 44% more light looked like, you see more, the same but brighter. Remember aperture rules even if it's just 2" bigger.

I knew that I wanted more and you make up your mind if you want more also. I'll use my 10" a couple day's then switch to the 12" and it is very noticeable as to how much more light 44% is. Thats almost half again as much light.

If you have room for both don't get rid of the 10", they all have their own uses. I think if I had to I could make room for 20 dobs of all sizes, plywood and shingles aint that high. HA! HA! wink
Good luck on your decision, Darrell

want to make a telescope with my 6th grade son

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Mark, I was wondering how the project went with your son. I hope you were able to use the items I sent and got a good grade.

I sent several private messages trying to find out how everything did but I guess you did'nt notice. We all get pretty busy but I was curious as to how it came out.
Sincerely, Darrell

"Mr. Wizard" dies at 89

I alway's loved his show on Saturday's. Because of him I just had to have a chemistry set and microscope. I miss those day's, I use to want to be the kid that he used when doing his experiment's.
He seemed like a great guy. I'd still watch him even though it was meant to be a show to attract kid's to science. Thank's for the post Darian.

Round and round we go!

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Can you imagine viewing with Jess, you could'nt, you would be holding your sides the entire time listening to his very funny off the wall jokes. It would be a very unforgetable star party. I like to have a few beer's to unwind while I'm out there anyway, I'd be spraying it everywhere with each sip. Sound's like he really enjoy's the hobby and has a great personality.
Just thought I'd mention that Jess. I'm sure you've seen a lot of beer spray or even just a coke.
Best regard's, Darrell grin

LXD650, cant get it to turn on

Posted By Darrell Hensley

Hi Mike, The exact same thing happened to my LXD 75. It was working perfect and when I plugged in my adaptor it was dead.

If the 650 is like the 75 there is'nt an internal battery, I would think that it is possibly a circuit board just fried out. You dont get any warning at all just like when a light bulb goes out.

You probably need to call Meade and tell them and they will probably give you a work order number to have it sent in. At least that's what they did on my 75.

Floyd has a 650, maybe he can tell you something but it sound's like a board burned out or maybe just a loose internal wire or a number of simple thing's.
Wish I could help you more,
Best of luck, Darrell
