I have an MN 56 with the same focuser. I seem to remember tightening those with a very small hex wrench (or at least thinking about it). I will try to check that and get back to you.

APM used to market a high quality f 5.5 mak newt (150mm as I remember). I would extrapolate that a 10" might be very good (but it's not any more than extrapolation).

They have better correction that can be important for longer focal length eyepieces, and they are made by Televue, and they cost a fair bit. So, they must be better, and for certain applications they are.
They may be better for other applications, but the difference is small enough so that the people selling them couldn't see it at the eyepiece. A good quality barlow works very very well for most planetary applications.
Others may be selling them to get a different telenegative factor that works with their current scope.

I have a few TMB Mono's and a couple of Type 6 Naglers. The Mono's are definitely better, but the Naglers are as good as anything else I've used (Plossls, UO Orthos) but also more expensive. To be perfectly honest, all of the four mentioned are very good, and then there are Ultimas and Taks etc.. And, they are probably very good as well. To anticipate Alan French, "The differences tend to be subtle."

In addition to those mentioned I can get hints of spiral arms in M81 with my 8". So I would assume that quite a lot more would show up in a 12 to 15. I can also get a fine dark lane in the Sombrero (M104). Others have mentioned M74 as a good face on galaxy (but that a faint fuzzy in my 8").

In my expereince the barrel is not integral to the optics in Televue Plossls (15mm or 17mm).

I'm no expert, but Unitron's are a classic scope, of very good quality. It has value as guide scope, and as a collector's item. Original eyepieces and barlow, also box and manual(yeah right!)also add to the collector's value. Just hwat that value is, goes beyond my expertise.

I would go with a 14" t-Scope in their beefier build with some kind of tracking.
