Maximum useful barlow magnification

Posted By Paul Maxson

David,

I have used a 5x powermate with my 10" F/12 Mewlon and it has worked quite nicely. Even with projection tubes behind my 3x barlow producing F/40 I get nice images. But mostly it depends on seeing.

Theophilus in Deep Shadow

Alan,

Wow!! Very impressive! I used to think that the Theophilis image that Thierry LeGault has in the Meade Catalogue was the benchmark of lunar images, but these blow his away. Which just shows how far we have come!!

Hi,

Imaged with an Infinity 2-1 Monochrome camera (oh how I wish I had a color filter wheel this morning ), IR pass filter, 30fps, stack of 1000 frames.

Thanks,

Mars September 1, 2005

Ron,

I would be glad to, except i think you are using a digital camera and i am using a webcam. I've never shot with a digital camera so I wouldn't know where to start. However, I'm sure there are folks here with that kind of experience and would be happy to help out.

Thanks!!
Paul

Paul,
Great photo's, are you up to giving a little advice, after 30 years of not touching any camera equipment,i,now retired want to take some photos of the moon. (never done before) only wild life. I have a Minolta Maxxum HTSI Plus and a Meade DS-114-AT w/autostar, not much but i think enough for moon shots, can you give any advice on exp.time, f/stop etc. like i said its been 30 years since i touched and equipment. I noticed your shots and they are great..thank you very much Ron

Alan,

Wow! That is impressive. It makes me want to give DSO a try. Of course I'm still trying to figure out the best exposure technique for the satelites of Mars... grin

Re: Tackling Mars in IR - to pass or block?

Posted By Paul Maxson

One of my Red filters has IR blocking and the other does not. I find that the images with the non-blocked filter tends to burn out in high red areas like Aethiopis while the blocked filter does not. If I used the non-blocked filter I'd likely use it with a blocking filter.
