Recommendations moving from refractor to?

Posted By Bill Barrett

I just want to thank everyone for their input. Clearly I will need to make a leap in aperture and there are many excellent possibilities. Now the hard part will be letting go of the 6" refractor to help finance the next move. thank you, Bill

CHROMACOR Collimation w/ off the shelf parts

Posted By Bill Barrett

Doug;
I have been regularly using a chromacor for the past several years with my 6" F8 Jaegers.
Before purchasing the chromacor I squared up the tube, installed an AP 2.7" focuser & it has been a plug & play device ever since. I have never had any problems with flaring.
I experimented for a while with different diagonals & adapters but found the differences to be insignificant.
So once you get the focuser square and the lens collimated, I think you'll be good to go. All the best, Bill

Can anybody identify this 5" lens

Posted By Bill Barrett

I'd like to thank everyone for their help & several people have asked me to provide more info & photos. The lens is indeed F5 &meaures 120mm clear across the back of the cell. There is a retainer ring around around the crown with small allen screws which thread through the wall of the cell The rear element is pressed into a rubber gasket. I hope this helps & thanks again, Bill

I still have a McIntosh 4100 receiver, a pair of Klipsch Heresey speakers, a Phillips 977 turntable.

Comparison between older AP and the Latest APOs

Posted By Bill Barrett

I have a Pre Starfire 1985 6" F9 which I consider to be the scope of a lifetime. It delivers wonderfully detailed, crisp images of the planets. It is also a delight for deep sky objects: stars are pinpoints on a sea of black across the entire field of view. The images are so good it makes me take my time and look more carefully & helps me become a better observer.

Thank you,

Bill
