Tyler,
Stunning image! What are details....exposures, equipment used et al? This gives me something to shoot for, though I doubt I'll achieve anything so nice any time soon.

IC 405 "Flaming Star" Nebula in Auriga

Posted By Rob Mackie

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. Here's a re-processed IC 405. I toned down the smoothing and gaussian blur, and applied DDP in Maxim as per Eric Africa's directions. Comments?

Excellent! We have identical setups, so I enjoy seeing what someone who knows what he's doing can achieve with the AP-130F/6, SXV-H9, and STV autoguider.

A brother for my Mewlon

In addition to my 5" apo (AP 130 F/6)used for imaging and some visual, I've owned a Mewlon 250 as well as C8's and other obstructed designs. I've noted many times that planetary views on nights of mediocre seeing are better with the 5" AP. I assume this is a function of susceptibility of obstructed designs to poor seeing. See the ongoing thread in the equipment forum for an in depth discussion of central obstruction's effect on visual performance. The FS 128 is an exceptionally good apo and I'd say it would be an excellent complement to the M250, which, by the way, I regret selling.

I never cease to be impressed at your ability to achieve excellent results with minimal equipment. If I had a fraction of your skill I'd be happy.

Very impressive! I don't know whether the color balance is "roght" or not, but the final result is most appealing.
