My first glimpse at Venus/phase

In the past every time I have observed the Bright beautiful planet of Venus I was using a 4" refractor and without the benefit of a filter.. all I was able to view was a bright image similar to that of a star... Last night from OR. I attached a 2" moon filter to a UO. MK-70 25mm. and slid it into my TV everbrite dia. on my C8. wow! what I was able to see was a nice crescent, tack sharp and detailed, will try to take a digital image of it tonight with my coolpix 880 & Maxi view 14mm. scopetronx EP. will post it here if I have success.. clear skys for the 1st. time in 66 days! Anyone get a chance to see the Western sky this evening? Venus just above a thin Moon.. very beautiful!.. Put a polarized filter on my EP. and caught a crescent on Venus too... John M. West Coast. Oregon.

Q-4 from OREGON COAST.

Checked out Starry Night Enthusiast last night and in the SW was the Comet Q-4 just below Procyon. The program on my Desk top showed a large tail and bright head. I set up my C-8 with 102 refractor mounted atop and scanned that region of the early evening sky.. there it was.. a round fuzz-ball. Has anyone seen it more clearly? An e-mail pal of mine in New Zealand sent me a shot of a CCD image he took of it down under.. wow! really impressive.. John Meiners, Astoria, OR.

what is the best EP for Saturn & Jup.

I have a C8 and have tried lots of different sizes & types of EPs when viewing these two Planets.. Too much power and I loose sharpness too little and the detail is lacking.. I have tried Barlows with no pleasing improvement.. your thoughts? thanks, John M

Just saw a AP scope, 180 f/7. for sale on the "Auction" block for $37.000. I thought there would be a nice mount included for this price.. Just the OTA and a nylon carry case.. :S Why so Much!

Looking for a book, someone may have collecting dust on a shelf..Astro-photography for beginners (dummies).. or a title I can look for at the book store.. I have a C8/piggyback mount/Canon 35mm. Camera.. ready to try. Saw a beautiful shot of the Bee-Hive M-41 with Neat 4.. could not do that with my digital! Thanks for your help, John Meiners, OR. Yes.. its raining!
