Wes,

Nice image!! I have heard a lot of bad things about those wild fires. I hope you are not threatened by them.

IR pass filter

Posted By Paul Maxson

Personally I like to use a Red filter, like an Astronimik red which is about 650nm. This filter also has IRB built in. You can image this way in B&W with K3 or in colour and extract the red layer. The red filter helps eliminate some of the affects of seeing.

Do any of you have a favorite IR pass filter for imaging the moon? I'm now using a C9.25 so a small bandpass may be an issue with the limited aperature, advice? TIA, Vince

Best method for planet focusing

Posted By Paul Maxson

I use the ole "looks good to my eye method" Not the best but all I have to work with now. My rule of thumb is not to scrimp on focusing. I have worked the focus for 10 minutes or more for a 2 minute avi, then go through the same thing again for the next one. The more care you can take in focusing, no matter what method you use, the better your images.

Nick,

Not bad at all. I know what you mean, sometimes you just gotta image even if seeing is not great, it just feels good being out there driving the scope. Also, you'll really appreciate when you get good seeing.
