Pakistan PM: CIA Reports Bizzare

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Frankly, the Pakistan prime minister has a point when he says, "If you just reflect on what happened, first: we heard there was a dinner meeting with all the seniors: I think that's a bizarre thought because these people don't get together in a terrain or environment like that."
Pakistan officials also claim they can't confirm the report on ABC news that claims the senior bomb maker was killed based upon "Pakistan sources."
The prime minister said that "there was no evidence that any other people were there."

The exception or the rule?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I would suspect there are many corporate entities that support charitable causes either out of a pursuit of a noble cause or as an alternative to paying funds to the taxman.
I'd like to see Exxon invest a good portion of their beyond obscene profits in a similar manner as that of Dow. Failing that, I'd like to see a windfall tax on their profits with the proceeds funding the same...

Bush Trumps the Fear Card

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Bush announced yesterday, with much fanfare, that a plot to blow-up a tower in Los Angeles with a hijacked plane was foiled shortly after 9-11. The lead terrorist was reportedly captured at the time in a "southeast asia country."
As Senator Diane Finstein noted today, this was not a new revelation but it was a scenario examined by the 9-11 commission. The mayor of Los Angeles is POed at the Bush administration for not informing him of the plot directly. Instead, the mayor had to hear it through the media.
Why would Bush bring this up now?
In my opinion, Bush made the announcement to take the heat off his domestic spying program. I've read more negative comments from republicans on Bush's program in the last several days than I've seen from democrats in the last several months.
Bush's message is that we are all safer because of his prorams and spying efforts even though the incident he refers to has apparently little, if anything, to do with his domestic spying program and other policies instituted by his administration.

Bush Administration Busting Canadian Drugs

Posted By Rod Kaufman

At a time when the Bush adminstration is attempting to get seniors assigned to one of their medicare drug plans, another ploy has been applied to discourage people from obtaining lower cost prescriptions from Canada. The LA Times is reporting today (2-11)the Bush administration has ramped-up the seizures of Canadian medications ordered through the internet and delivered through the mail.
"Its huge-we've had over 800 seizures in January, up from 15 in a typical month", as per the president of a Canadian drug company president.
One US customer summed-up the feelings of many US customers by stating: They're seizing lipitor and diabetes meds upon which patients need to survive instead of cocaine and narcotics.
The governor's office of Minnesota is expressing alarm because the state, like several others, allows it's residents to purchase Canadian drugs at substantially lower costs than from US pharmacies. They are in an uphill battle against the US drug companies and their cronies in the Bush adminstration. In the meantime, Canadian pharmacies will replace, at no charge, any prescription drugs seized by the Bush administration. Good for the Canadian companies, stick it right-up the Bush administration's kazoo...

Bush's Brainstorm: Sell National Forests

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The Bush administration Friday announced plans to sell off more than one billion in public lands, including 85,000 acres of national forest land in California. The funds resulting from the sale will make up for a federal subsidy eliminated by Bush's 2007 budget. The subsidy would have been used to fund schools and roads.
"This is a fire sale of public lands. It is utterly unprecedented," said Char Miller, professor of environmental history at Trinity University in Houston.
So now we can look forward to a fast food joint in the Bitterroot, Sierra or Yellowstone national forest thanks to the genius of George W Bush.

What happens now?

My two cents that no one will like:
This was a hunting accident, one of many that reportedly occur during the hunting seasons.
Get over it and move on...

"Civil unrest is rampant". I would change that to "Civil war is rampant."

Re: Just in time

Joe,
Well, we've got fanatics on both sides but a poll released today has Bush's approval rating at 34%, THIRTY-FOUR PERCENT!.
That's so far down in the toilet that I don't think Bush has enough high boot to step out of it.
It appears only his hardcore base is still supporting him while the rest are awakening to the reality of Bush and his administration...

Bush: Bin Laden helped me win

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Bush now credits Bin Laden with helping him win over Kerry. In a new book, Bush credits a tape released by Bin Laden shortly before the election as evidence that he didn't want Bush re-elected so Bush must be the right choice.
My recollection of the tape is that Bin Laden stated it didn't make any difference to him who was elected. I did feel the release of the tape produced fear in people that Bush capitalized upon and may have had a positive effect of winning additional votes for Bush. But people didn't look beyond the fear and realize that the bogus war in Iraq allowed Bin Laden to escape from Afghanistan but it appears, albeit too late, that people have finally begun to awaken to that fact.

How Bad Does It Have To Get?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Rumsfeld is complaining that the media is exacerbating the the situation in Iraq and it's not nearly as bad as it's being made out to be!
BS!
The death toll from all of the civil violence mounts in Iraq everyday and it's being accurately reported by the media. The bombings actually happen and the death toll ensues. This isn't a matter of opinion, speculation, or conjecture. It's the reporting of the factual nature of the current situation in Iraq and Rumsfeld is claiming it's hyped! Who hyped the war in the first place?
All of this from Rummy, the daddy of death...
