Alan,

That is beautiful! Just shows how far we have come in the past couple of years. In 2003 that image would have been the showpiece image...now we agree it is beautiful, but we know we can do better. WOW!! 8O

Is GOTO worth it?

Posted By Paul Maxson

One thought seems to be missing here. I would get a mount that can be upgraded to goto and put a nice sized scope on it. If later, I find I really WANT goto, just buy the upgrade, if not put that $$$ into something else. Amateur astronomy has a way of sucking $$$ right out of your pocket. You might find that other methods like starhopping or setting circles or what ever does what you want anyway.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

This is the .fit file I got after combining 100 images of M52. This is the fit file I used to process the final product. If anyone wants to try it, feel free. The fit was created in Nebulousity 1.49.

What is the cost of astrophotography?

Posted By Paul Maxson

For some reason this reminds me of that credit card ad:

Cost of a telescope and filters $2000
Cost of a camera $1500
Cost of the computer and software to process images $1000

Cost of a final image of M13 that brings a tear to your eye...

priceless....

grin
Clear skies!

My first Ha shot...

Ivan,

Wow, that is great! Which filter did you get? I got a 10nm here and tried it once so far. Mother Nature hasn't cooperated yet. Your results are inspiring.
