Another shot, lighting is very bad but might help with ID.

Female goldfinch

Thanks. We've been stuck inside a lot with rainy cloudy weather so I opened the window and experimented with different scopes & lenses on the goldfinch in the backyard. This particular shot was with a C5 + focal reducer. Although heavily vignetted I could really notice the extra resolution with 125mm of aperture versus the other test shots. Too bad its such a bear to handle in the woods.

Wow, that's sharp, very nice. And you DID INDEED sneak up on him, I can't manage to get that close.

Ariel Acrobatics

Great action shot. Are they fighting over territory? Is this normal springtime behavior for kingbirds?

Nice shot, and looks like you managed to get pretty close. I kind of like the setting here which you loose in a closeup.

Yellow Warbler

That's a great pose, I like the surroundings as well.

BTW are you using autofocus for these recent shots? I ask because I just got my first autofocus lens and am trying shots from the same distance. I find it tricky to get it to focus on the tiny bird with so much else in the center of the field. I suppose I should read the manual and select a good focusing mode rather than use "A". Anyway curious what you are doing because the results are good.

Really good shot. There are hundreds of these around my local wetlands/woods but I find it really hard to get a good shot. Did you take that from your canoe?

Great Blue Heron

That's a great shot. Impressive to get so close. He seems relatively bothered by your presence.

If I ever finish my wooden kayak I'll be emboldened to take my camera out. Did you take any special precautions to keep water out?
