Looking for lowest profile 2" to 1.25" adapter

AstroSystems has an utra low profile adapter, but it isn't a compression ring type. It uses a setscrew so it can be semi-permanently attached to the eyepiece. Cost is just under $30. It's the only ultra low profile adapter I know of, though I heard that Pete Smitka at Portaball also carries one.

I used to have 5.2mm, 7mm, 10.5mm, and 14mm Pentax XLs and none of them had grease on them. I would clean the grease off if it were me.

Stellarvue 115

I asked the same thing on the TMB group on Yahoo and was assured that it is exactly the same as the lens in the "real" TMB 115. Only the tube is different, and you can get the TMB in a lightweight tube too. I liked the blue tube that Stellarvue has though.

Thomas did have back sugery, but seems to be on the mend. He is posting on the TMB group, but not a whole lot. Apparently business is good, so he has other matters to attend to.

Offers of 14.5" scopes for sale

IMHO, if you found a good deal on the SM hybrid 14.5", then go for it. Of course, I say that because I have one and love it, so I will admit my bias right up front! I have to say that if I were to sell mine, I would not be offering a "great deal" on it. wink

The nice thing about the hybrid 14.5", other than the CZ mirror of course, is that it gives you several nice options for transporting it. You can leave the upper truss/UTA assembly put together, thus cutting down the assembly time. You can leave the mirror in the mirror box and use the wheelbarrow handles to haul the mirror box/rocker box put together, or you can remove the mirror and haul it in its transport box. Lots of options for this scope.

Did I mention the CZ optics alone are worth the price of admission?

Oh yeah, you also get Rick's customer service and advice with it. Rick always says that customer service goes with the telescope, not the first person to own it. He's quite an interesting guy to chat with as well.

BTW, although it probably sounds like it, I don't work for Rick, I'm just a very satisfied repeat customer (this is my fourth Starmaster).

Good luck with finding other offers too. There are lots of good choices out there, but I would go for the SM. smile
