Very nice, Damian. I like the way you captured the crepe ring against the dark sky well. Quite often that is missing from excellent CCD images.

UPS Store prices?

Recently a UPS store opened nearby, so yesterday when I went to the PO to weigh a pkg. for an AM transaction, I decided to stop by there & compare prices. The pkg. weighed 1 lb. 13.7oz & cost me $4.14 to mail to IL from LA(parcel post).

The girl weighed it & measured it. It was about 8"X8"X5" or so; nothing unusual. She quoted me the price of $10.00 UPS ground & said it would get there by Tues..

I asked her if this was the cheapest rate & she said yes.

Are these UPS stores more expensive than just taking it by a regular UPS shipping center? We have one of those, but it's across town & not convenient. Or did the girl make an error?

To mail the pkg. 1st class by USPS would have only cost me $4.95.

I have a friend from the Algiers area staying with me. We left NO Sunday morning before the storm arrived & it took me 12.5 hours to get from Algiers to Alexandria, which is about 200 miles. It normally takes 4 hours. It took more than 5.5 hours just to get out of NO.
The entire matter is a tragedy for many of the citizens who remained there & died.

I'm just curious about anyone's thoughts on this matter. I know there are a number of reasons why such behavior occurs; not one thing specifically. One reason is government policies & programs that have essentially undermined the Negro family & encouraged irresponsibility & total dependence on government. It is an unfortunate cycle that needs to end. Katrina ended it, at the present time in New Orleans, & hopefully it will end for good in that area. If rebuilt properly, New Orleans could almost be a model city, of sorts.

Man on Moon?

This may have been asked before in some manner on these forums, but I just thought I'd inquire to see what others think.

Presently, I am 52 years old & was almost 16 in 1969 during the first moon landing. Somehow I really would not be surprised to not see the US land another man on the moon during my lifetime. Of course I hope I am mistaken.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Hair Loss in Women?

I know that when women age there is a tendency for their hair to thin, but I have a friend whose hair is thinning excessively. She is 54.
It occurred to me that she may have a vitamin deficiency. What lack of vitamin would cause this in women, men, or rats? smile
Also. I plan to suggest that she go to a dermatologist & discuss the matter with him.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this matter?

AM might be an unusual place to ask for medical advice, but I know there are some very smart people on this site.

I hope I have the name correct, but does anyone remember these Dobsonians? They were crude by today's standards, but a real step up from the Coulter closed tube Dobs. The first one I recall seeing was a 17.5"(?) owned by a vacuum cleaner store owner from Harlington TX, out at TSP, in the early '80s. The diagonal mirror was "glued" to a piece of dowel & adjusted by 6 bolts in a metal "spider of sorts".

Actually, they were very nice looking scopes for their time.

Potted Meat?

Does anybody in these Forums like potted meat sandwiches? It's not something I eat on a regular basis, but it does occasionally make a quick meal. Usually one can pick up 4 cans for $1.00 at WalMart.

Inquiring minds want to know. grin
