using a Fast Fourier Transform. Bully for him. There is a big difference in all specialties of electronics and electrical systems, as well as computer engineering.
Forrest indicated that he studied Computer Engineering if I'm not mistaken which is totally different than Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering, which happens to be my specialized degree. All have some phases of electrical and electronic study involved, however being a Computer Engineer is a far cry from a Field engineer, where one goes into the field, troubleshoots equipment, and repairs said equipment on site.
Also, having a degree in computer engineering is a far cry from electrical or electronic engineering
and vice versa. In other words, although in college I had many programming courses, pascal, and even assy language courses, where I remember manipulating stacks and registers, I wouldn't have the vaguest Idea of what is involved in computer engineering.
Therefore I just have to ask, are you truly as ignorant as you come across?
I've worked as a Field Engineer for 4 years repairing electro-mechanical devices and I worked for Hitachi Medical for 6 years as I've stated before, repairing their Ultrasound systems in the field and at the bench.
I've done simple and complex board tracing as well as troubleshooting electronic and mechanical circuits down to component level in medical as well as audio equipment, so Yes I do stand by my statement that I've probably forgotten more about electronics and electronic devices than Forrest will ever know.
I doubt very Seriously that Forrest has ever repaired any medical equipment, ultrasound equipment, diathermy devices, or even audio amplifiers, when he was busy designing algorithms for an FFT.
See counselor, one has to know the workings of electronic components such as filter capacitors, bridge rectifiers, diodes, etc... when one traces a schematic to isolate the problem in a medical device that makes it operate correctly. That takes troubleshooting skills which I assume Forrest has ever even engaged in, during his career of becoming a citizen who earns the top 1/10 of one percent of the rest of the world.
I doubt Forrest could even tell me what the purpose of a choke or filter capacitor is in an electrical circuit, because he hasn't worked with them in decades I imagine if ever.
His knowledge of solid state electronic devices, considering he apparently works with computers, is most likely on a par with my knowledge of repairing automobile engines and transmissions, i.e. very limited.
So then, permit me to inform you and school you counselor regarding your commentary above, which indicates that you are FAR outside your expertise and understanding, so you might consider that fact, the next time you want to interject and stick your fat nose into an area about which you are obviously a complete neophyte.
