NRA: Sell Guns To Terror Suspects

Posted By Rod Kaufman

A bill is being opposed by the NRA that would ban sales of firearms to suspects on a terrorist list. It appears the fact that guns have been sold to known terrorists and suspected terrorists doesn't seem to curb the zeal of the NRA of their "right" to purchase firearms.

Sunnis Set Deadline

Posted By Rod Kaufman

As everyone knows, Bush and his fellow Republicans won't set deadlines when it comes to leaving Iraq. They like it there.
But now, the Iraqi vice president who represents the Sunnis and whose presence is CRITICAL to political process in Iraq has given us all a deadline of May 15 to either change it or lose it when it comes to their participation in the Iraqi constitution and the Iraqi government. The Sunni vice president says his participation thus far may have very well been the biggest mistake of his life. Well, that makes him even with our president.
By the way, the Iraqi vice president won't even meet with Bush for brains until he sees some prospects for change, like a "benchmark"...

Paul Wolfowitz

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The situation with Wolfowitz is ridiculous. He should resign immediately. It's just as outrageous as Alberto Gonzales sitting before a committee of Republicans and Democrats and stating he doesn't remember what goes on in his own department in response to around seventy questions from the committee. Then you have George W Bush state immediately after the fiasco that Alberto has even more of his confidence.
By the way, Bush has expressed his great confidence in Wolfowitz as well...

Toddler Gets Gun Permit

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"Legalizing ownership is a proper thing to do", for a responsible adult, not a 10 month old toddler.
"...he will be able to learn proper respect for both family heirlooms and proper gun handling when old enough to learn." In this case, a shotgun, no less, at age 14...
Of course, the above completely misses the point that a 10 month old toddler with a description to match gets a gun permit with a scrible for a signature. And yet, we've still got one who tries to rationalize it...

Toddler Gets Gun Permit

Posted By Rod Kaufman

In a story sure to warm the hearts of the NRA, a ten month old toddler received a gun permit for a shotgun in Illinois. Baby "bubba" currently utilizes the gun permit as a teething ring. It seems there's no age restriction for owning a gun in Illinois so his father filled-out the permit listing the toddler's age, height, weight etc and the permit was promptly granted without delay.
The shotgun, as per the father, will be withheld until age 14 (years).
Of course, we can't even think of restricting guns from toddlers, it might lead to some sort of precedent...

Beer?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

While I think the picture would be more accurate if he was picking his nose at the same moment, Mr Bush has always maintained his faith has seen him through his addiction to alcohol. So, taking him at his word, he was, in fact, born again and therefore, although he's not perfect, he's been forgiven.
And, there's always the possibility that the liquid in the container is an alcohol-free, easily assimilated, dietary-friendly nutrient, highly compatible with the lunch President Putin fed Mr Bush yesterday...

They Shoot The Messenger

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Rather than face the spectacle of having General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, explain the ongoing failures in Iraq, the Bush administration will simply withdraw his renomination and replace him with somebody else. Presto-change-o!
Failures like the fact that the latest consensus of opinion from all of our national intelligence agencies, reported yesterday, states that our military presence in Iraq is creating more new members for Al Queda than it kills on the ground.
But what else would you expect from the Bush administration?
The same administration that ignored pre-invasion intelligence from our allies that Iraq's so-called WMDs didn't really exist.
The same administration that ignored warnings from our own intelligence services that the invasion of Iraq would increase the presence of Al Queda rather than diminish it.
The same administration that points to the presence of Al Queda in Iraq and claims it's evidence of justification of the decision to invade the country even though they were warned before the invasion that it would occur if we proceeded with the invasion.
The same administration that has it's vice president continuing to lie about a supposed link between Al Queda and pre-invasion Iraq when that idea has been rebuked and debunked by both the CIA and the Pentagon.
The same administration that claims it's trying to "get things right" in Iraq...

Solving Iraq

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Two Republican Senators, Sam Brownback (a presidential hopeful) and Gordon Smith are now co-sponsoring a resolution from Joe Biden that recommends decentralizing the Iraqi government and creating semi-autonomous regions for Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds.
Biden has been pushing the plan for more than a year.
Biden said, "The president still clings to a fatally flawed notion...that the Iraqis will rally behind a strong central government that keeps the country together and protects the rights of all factions." Biden continued, "Simply put, Iraq cannot be run from the center absent a dictator or foreign occupation." "If we want the country to hold together and find stability, we have to make federalism work."
Brownback agreed with the federalism plan, and he called it, "the only political solution that works."
The tri-state solution for Iraq is something I've commented on in past threads, and, like I've said, it's going to happen anyway so better sooner than later...

Libby Trial/Bush's Hardcore Base

Posted By Rod Kaufman

What's left of Bush's hardcore base (28% approval rating as per latest poll) is evidently taking a break from their bible study classes (advanced) in order to write to the judge in the Libby trial with such hatred that the judge is saving the mail in case something happens to him.
One wonders why they're acting so irrationally when, in all likelihood, Libby will receive a pardon from Bush, especially when you take into account Libby's wife has stated publically that if her husband does any time, they'll xxxx 'em if they don't get a pardon.
The Bush crew, in fine form....

Bush arms terrorists!

My view on this is that it represents another failure of Condy Rice who has accomplished nothing in her tenure as Secretary of State. No deal or agreement of any kind with anybody. Zilch, zero, nothing. She had to try something and the results speak for themselves.
