NASA's Goal?

Back in the '60s, the goal of NASA was to successfully put a man on the moon & bring him back safely. What is NASA's goal now?

I find the planetary exploration missions quite interesting, as well as Hubble, Chandra, etc., but as interesting as manned flight is for the participants, my only interest is in their safety going into orbit & returning.

Just my thoughts. grin

Appealing TV/Radio Commercials

On another Forum there were discussions of TV commercials that people do not like.

I'm interested in TV(or radio) commercials that you find appealing, for whatever reason.

I'd like to limit it to American TV because I know there are a lot of foreign commercials that are interesting, but not familiar to most people.

As far as TV (these two are old, so they may not be remembered), Chanel produced a b&w commercial showing a woman sitting on the edge of a pool, a fellow surfaces where she is sitting, & a small aircraft shadow(?) passes over. Not sure exactly what appealed to me about it, but I just found it very creative.

Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry made one about a man & woman noticing each other at a party. It was almost satirical in nature, but very appealing.

As far as radio, I immensely enjoy the Bud Light "Real American Hero/Real Men of Genius" commercials. My favorite was the "Mr. footlong hotdog inventor" tribute. 8)

Aluminum coating for mirror?

Who is a good source for a standard coating for a 6" mirror? I've used Clausing in the past for their Beral coating, but my e-mail to them was undeliverable. I'm interested in just a basic aluminum coating at a very reasonable cost, but good turn around time.

Thank you for any assistance you are able to offer.

Kermit the Frog/Canned Heat

I was listening to a radio program a few weeks ago & an interesting comment was made. I'm sure many of you older fellows(like me) are familiar with the song Going Up The Country by the '60s group Canned Heat. I never realized it but Kermit the Frog is doing the singing. shocked Download it & check it out. 8)

The New Thought Police: Inside The Left's Assault on Free Speech and Free Minds by Tammie Bruce

The book is about five years old & perhaps something better has been written since then, but it reveals the insidious nature of such ideas as hate speech & hate crimes, as well as pointing out individuals & groups who are the real enemies of freedom in the US.

Determine Winner of 3 Car Race?

A friend of mine is building a simple race track for a children's activity. Basically it will be 3 cars racing & he is trying to find a way to construct a very simple mechanical device to determine which car crosses the finish line first. Does anyone have any thoughts, or perhaps can point me in a direction for advice? Any assistance is appreciated.

From Rhodesia to Zimbabwe

Just saw a report on Yahoo about a coal shortage in Zimbabwe affecting the country. This is in spite of it having the largest coal reserves on the continent. Also, it mentioned something about Robert Mugabe addressing the UN.

What's unfortunate about this is that the US government played a role in the "overthrow" of the Rhodesian government.

Viet Nam?

I just wanted to present a question, not so much to stir debate, but simply to come up with a realistic answer.

I'm particular interested in hearing from VN vets, but anyone is welcome to chime in.

I was thinking about all the young 18 year(and older) boys that were forced into the military, shipped over to VN, and many killed or disabled. It just seems like such a travesty. FWIW, Viet Nam is further in the past in '06 than WWII was when I was a child. I am presently 53.

As best as any of you know, what was the real reason the US was there? What purpose was served by 50,000(?) Americans dying over there?
