Alt. Bearing Size?

Posted By Brien Stratton

According to the table in the booklet- A Guide to Building Truss Tube Telescopes, by Randy Cunningham (of Astrosystems) he recommends an altitude bearing size of 18" diameter for a 12.5" telescope.

First Light from the Humble Space Telescope

Posted By Brien Stratton

Hello Gary, I like your scope. I have a few comments on your questions, I hope it helps:

1) I just wanted to ask you about dew on the secondary. You may need a dew extension (a tube of kydex at the front of the scope put on with velcro strips)/and or some dew fighting heater (like Kendrick's Dew Systems, or Astrosystems Dewguard to help keep off dew from the secondary. I found in winter time my secondary was dewing up, and it showed up in the eyepiece as glare around bright objects like planets, moon, ect.

2) Dave Kriege in his book recommends car was on the laminates (then buff), then a coat of Armor-all after that. It does make it slicker.

3) The black foam has two other functions:

-it reflects less stray light into the optical path compared with the glare of the metal on the bare poles and

- is supposed to help with damping of vibrations from the poles, so less jiggle at the eyepiece.

Length of Creative Day- Part 1

Posted By Brien Stratton

cont...

Also, at Genesis 2:17, God said that if Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, then the day he ate the fruit, would be the day he died. If the Hebrew word for day- "yohm", can only mean 24 hours, then why did not Adam die that very day? He is reported to have lived to the age of 930 years old (Genesis 5:5). Therefore when God used the word "day" it appears to mean a longer period, a day to him, which is like a period of 1000 years. So he died short of one of God's days. Actually, no man yet has lived one of God's days. Methuselah the oldest man lived to the age of 969 years old (Genesis 5:27).

In Genesis chapter one, man was not around, so God's days could have been different in comparison to what men normally associate "day" with. He seems to be explaining the creative epochs in terms man could understand.

Concluding the review of accomplishments on each of the six days of creative activity is the statement, "And there came to be evening and there came to be morning," a first, second, third day, and so forth. (Ge 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31) Since the length of each creative day seems to have exceeded 24 hours, this expression does not apply to literal night and day but is figurative. During the evening period things would be indistinct; but in the morning they would become clearly discernible. During the "evening," or beginning, of each creative period, or "day," God's purpose for that day, though fully known to him, would be indistinct to any angelic observers. However, when the "morning" arrived there would be full light as to what God had purposed for that day, it having been accomplished by that time.-Compare Proverbs 4:18:

"But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established."

Laying a framework

Posted By Brien Stratton

Daryl, ultimately God is the judge. He will reward people accordingly for their actions (Revelation 22:12). He is a God of justice, love, wisdom, and power.

That said, let's get to some other points based on the Bible that I believe in:

1) I believe that most of the people that have ever died will be resurrected, whether they were righteous or unrighteous. (Acts 24:15; John 5:28,29). After their resurrection they will have the opportunity to follow Jesus' teachings, and further helpful instructions by God in restored conditions, a new system of things (Jesus' 1000 year rule- Revelation 20:1-3,11-13).

2) When Jesus returns in his second presence, and then at the time of the manifestation of that presence, true Christians alive at that time, will be saved into the coming new system of things ruled by Jesus for 1000 years (Revelation 7:9-17).

The only people excluded from the above mentioned blessings are (remembering that God will be the judge):

1) People who were extremely wicked towards God's purposes. For example people who sinned against the holy spirit (Mark 3:28-30), like Judas, or like Adam and Eve (who sinned in their perfect states willingly- see Romans 5:14), or some of the religious leaders who had Jesus killed, who had seen his miracles/healings done by the power of God's holy spirit right in front of their face, yet turned against Jesus.

2) People who died by direct actions of God, during for example, times of judgement by him. This would appear to include, the people who died outside of Noah's ark (only 8 righteous people survived), people who died when God rained fire and sulpher down on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Jude 7) (righteous Lot and his two daughters were rescued from Sodom and Gomorrah), and also people who reject Christ at his second presence when conditions in the world would be wicked, so that the difference between true Christians, and the rest of mankind, would be fairly plain to see who was on Christs' side. Jesus said that this time period would be the same as the days of Noah (Matthew 24:36-42). At that time only Noah and his family tried to do God's will, the rest ignored Noah's warnings, and did not get into the ark. The world was extremely corrupt at that time. God decided that he had to act to save his creation from ruin, and also to protect righteous people from the actions of wicked people against them.

These are my beliefs, other Christians/ other faiths may have different thoughts, and are entitled to their own opinions on this subject.

Aluminum to Wood

Posted By Brien Stratton

Hello, I had to glue in a piece of threaded rod in a hole drilled out of wood. I used carpenters glue, and the threaded rod came loose after a very short while. I would'nt use for metal/wood applications.

Then I used Lepages 5 minute epoxy #12 syringe glue I bought at Home Depot and it worked great. It says it is good for metal and wood, glass, ceramic, concrete, and some plastics.

You could also use Lepages 5 minute epoxy #10 epoxy steel syringe glue, which is best used with metal, but on the package it says that you can use it for wood as well. The #10 epoxy steel worked great when I had to glue tight a bolt so it would'nt come loose. The bolt was first threaded into a tapped threaded hole which I had put into an aluminum angle bracket. This glue becomes like rock hard metal after hardening.
