The Tarantula Nebula

Posted By Greg Bradley

Here is another one from my recent imaging trip to my dark site.

15 x 2 minutes unguided, modified Canon 20D, Tak FS152, Tak NJP mount.

I used the star trailing repair method at this site:

http://www.flemingastrophotography.com/startrails.html

There was some minor star trailing as this object is quite close to the South Celestial Pole.

The Small Magellanic Cloud

Posted By Greg Bradley

The Small Magellanic Cloud is the other companion Galaxy to our Milky Way. It appears as a small white patch in the southern sky at a dark site.

This one is quite close to the South Celestial Pole.

Tak FSQ106N, STL11000XCM, NJP Mount.

18 x 2 minutes. CCDStack, Photoshop CS2.

The Lagoon Nebula

Posted By Greg Bradley

I have een busy processing a series of images I took from a recent trip to my dark site observatory.

With my new toy - a Canon 20D I modified myself replacing the stock filter with a Baader UV/IR filter I was ready to go.

Here is the Lagoon Nebula. 21 x 2 minutes, unguided on a Tak NJP mount/permanent pier.

Images Plus, CCDstack, Photoshop CS2.

You can see the faint blue reflection nebula that surrounds this nebula that is not often shown. The Takahashi FS152 at F6 with its fluorite doublet has picked up faint reflection nebula before from that site which has very clear and dark skies (3400 feet altitude as well). That scope has tremendouslight throughput.

I have been doing a LOT of processing lately.

I took on board the comments about the original version of the Horsehead I posted last week.

Here it is again much improved.

M42 in a sea of red dust/gas

Posted By Greg Bradley

I have seen Rob Gendler's widefield Ha shot of Orion but it is still surprising to see that the Orion Nebula is sitting in a vast sea of red gas/dust. Looking through a scope visually this is invisible.

Tak FSQ106n, STL11000XCM.
