Virgo Cluster of galaxies

Eric,
Excellent! You've not only gone very deep, but your processing actually brings out some definite shape in many of the galaxies--a rare accomplishment indeed!

Vince,
Wow!
Staying up late to catch the Swan, eh? That is one dramatic image and no color needed. Can't wait to aim that way myself.
Again, great shot,
Larry

Questions from CCD newbie---equipment?

Posted By Larry Durst

James,
If you already have the camera, don't dwell on much else at first. Just go out and use it. Any scope, any mount you already have as long as it can track for even half a minute. Just shoot how long you can without star trailing, then stack and stack and stack. Shooting brighter DSOs at 30 seconds may make for a lot of files, but you'll have jumped in and will see some results. Have fun and you will keep getting better. Then, should you get hooked (like so many of us have) you'll begin to understand what equipment you might want, how much you're willing to spend (and do be prepared to spend!), etc. And just reading these posts, looking at member's websites, reading whatever you can, visiting a local club or star party you'll soon know what equipment you can't do without.
Have fun,
Larry

Vince,
I didn't know where to look first. Everyone is brilliant. Just an amazing gallery of nebulae, and your Markarian's chain is so detailed and deep I could stare at it for hours. You sure know how to turn a dark sky into gold.

Great image, Greg. You've really captured it beautifully, and terrific stars. Would love to see your skies for myself someday.

Hey Tim,
I concur that's quite amazing for such a short exposure. Were you using the USB interface? How's it working?

Larry
