13.1 Message Board Usage Policy
Using the discussion boards on Astromart can be helpful and entertaining. People learn about their collective interests, and meet new friends on the boards. We have one type of discussion board on Astromart. The Category specific boards that comprise the Astro Café. For all boards, the messages posted by members are solely the opinion and responsibility of the person posting the message. Astromart is not responsible for postings by non-Astromart employees. The following are cause for suspension from the boards or possibly Astromart, depending upon the nature of the posting: Posting contact information about another individual, including their real-world name, address, or phone number. Using profanity or hate speech. Posting material (graphic or text) of an adult nature. Posting information about another on-line astronomy classified and/or auction service. Using JavaScript in posts. We recommend that you do not copy personal correspondence on the board without the permission of all parties involved in the correspondence. We also recommend that you do not post any private information about yourself, such as your password, credit card number, contact information, or billing account information. Our policy is that no business may be conducted on the boards. Those boards are available for you to discuss your collecting interests or to be social. The use of this discussion board for buying, selling or trading will not be tolerated. Violations may result in the elimination of this discussion board and/or in the suspension of board privileges for offenders. You may ask questions about an item and post the item number. However, you may not blatantly advertise items that you are selling. When you are using the boards, remember that you are responsible for your own words. Please consider your message carefully before submitting it.

Hey, turn my account back on!!!

Somebody at astromart sent me a one word email that said "astoNOT". One could only assume that this meant to relist my ad on the astroNOT section of the classifieds. I did so, and now my account is banned! It's like the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. It's not a big deal, I have my father's account to use, but it is the principle of the thing.

It is ironic that someone there banned my account for doing what I was told, because a month ago at a Mars party, the president of the Detroit Astronomy Club asked where I had bought my new 4.8mm Nagler. I had told him Anacortes, and he said that he would no longer buy from them because he was banned for no apparent reason from the forums(he suspects that it is because he is Black). I jokingly said "I just don't let 'em know what color I am!". Guess it can happen to anybody.

You guys need a system so that one admin can see what another is doing. Also, a more descriptive email than one word might help to avoid confusion on my (and others) part.

Certainly I don't give them away, but that's not the issue. I simply wanted to use the site like any other user, but since I'm in the
astronomical business I'm apparently subject to different rules. Sounds discriminatory, but okay... again what are the requisites
of becoming a sponsor?

That's fine, Herb. We both know I am not a dealer (at least I assume you
are intelligent enough to know that). You said you would not take a dealer
fee from me the last time I tried to pay it.... so which is it, you will or
you won't?

The latest item I posted - sold in about 2 hours - I guess the people on
Astromart are intelligent enough and savvy enough to recognize the good
values I've offered on the equipment I've sold and my consistent 5 star
rating attests to my honesty and integrity in dealing with both buyers and
sellers.

Anyway, as we both know this is NOT the first time YOU have made a mistake
and have wrongly accused and branded others with the "dealer" label in order
to extort payment from them for your "free service". It has been well
documented numerous times on the various user groups which has prompted
other really "free" services to start up and now are growing in popularity.

I also imagine that this kind of activity on your part has also been a
factor in discouraging many from actually buying from Anacortes - just based
upon your volatile decision making.

So, in closing, if my account is not re-instated by 10:00PM Saturday night,
I will feel free to post this in as many Astro related user groups as I can
in order to forewarn others of the arbitrary way in which you decide to
"brand" members and at any time may decide that they owe you a fee for using
your "Free" service.

It's a nice service - but it should be promoted honestly - i.e.... if you
decide anyone is too successful in selling gear, you may decide that you
want to extract a fee from them.

Will be changed tomorrow. Since instatement of the "new" peer group to determine who is and who is not a dealer on AstroMart I have been very pleased with this approach and I am going to make in permanent through the end of 2003 and may extend it. Either I or any member of the group can bring a user to the group for review. Blatant violations (person has a web site etc) are still taken care of by me and I inform the group of my action - they can have input.
There are 20 voting members of this group and their decision will be final. I believe this is the best format for determining which users are outside of the intended purpose of AstroMart and relieves me and ATWB from the constant personal attacks associated with the "garage dealer" issues that are a continuing source of aggravation for me and the users of AstroMart.
Wording will be developed over the next 36 hours and the new TOS will be posted. This change in the TOS is in effect now and for the last few days.
