Wow Roland - that is a pretty impressive result!

Am I understanding correctly that you are producing the worm gears (and the worm wheels) in your shop? Is that a fairly new development, I thought you were working with a supplier for the drives in the past (although I'm not sure way I believed that)? As a guy involved in the production of extremely high accuracy gearing (but a larger size) I appreciate how large the challenge is - very cool!

Cocoon revisited

Nicely done Tom - Was there something specific you did differently, or did you just appoarch the whole processing task fresh?

How do you deal with this rating issue?

Posted By Michael Sandy

Well, the issue is now resolved - unfortunately it required Herb's intervention to clarify the TOS - but that part is over. However, now he is turning me over the authorities - a quote from his e-mail to me this afternoon:

"I will file the appropriate complaints with the Missouri Attorney General regarding your criminal misuse of my mail server and my email address under Missouri Law"

This action caused by the fact that I sent him an e-mail after he removed the rating saying only "Thank You!". I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, but I am glad this is over (I hope) - a most unpleasant experience!

It is all about Gun Safety.......

Posted By Michael Sandy

I found it interesting that the comments attached to that sad story about the boy were so opposed to teaching younger kids to properly handle firearms - many referred to it as "child abuse". I found it interesting because my experience was just the opposite. I found with my kids (and several others that I have instructed) that teaching them how to safely handle a weapon, and what the weapons was capable of, made them less likely to experiment on their own or with their peers. My kids were involve with my shooting from the time they were in diapers, and actively shooting center fire handguns by the time they were six or seven years old. Were they closely supervised and shooting very light loads, sure at first. But they both were reasonably proficient with 45 ACP and Magnum loads by the time they ten and eleven years old. I always considered firearms education as the best "gun proofing" you could do.

Now that they are adults, they have shared with me that several times their friends brought out a handgun of one type or anther.....and they got up and left the group - there was nothing that interested them about playing around with a handgun with a group that knew nothing about it. If they wanted to shoot, all they had to do was ask. They were also very clear about the damage that a handgun - or especially any long gun - could inflict. Just my $0.02 - what do you think?

Guns for Christmas?

Posted By Michael Sandy

Well Lee, I'm looking real hard at either a Sig P220 or a Kimber CDP Pro II......haven't decided yet - but I would love to add a more compact .45 to my inventory of handguns. I'm thinking the Kimber has the upper hand right now as I really do prefer the 1911.

A Barrett M82A1 under the Tree...

Posted By Michael Sandy

Wow, that is a pretty nice stable! The Barrett is an awesome weapon - I had the opportunity to fire one a year or so ago. It will really "reach out and touch" someone - and over huge distances. It is difficult to even find a place to shoot them at their full potential however.

In Kalifornia they decided that these are used by too many criminals during their crimes 8O , and it would be better if no one had the opportunity to own one. I think that is the general strategy of the antigun crowd in this state – ban enough of the specialty weapons to make gun banning an accepted fact, then they could ban anything they want. Oh well - that is probably the subject of another forum.

You got some nice looking stablemates there as well - nice stuff!

Guns for Arthritics?

Posted By Michael Sandy

Wow Lee, interesting post - but the thought of my mother-in-law with any type of firearm is something I don't want to consider 8O

Is this a case where a long gun (read shotgun) might be the best choice?

Home Defense Tactical Shotguns Anyone?

Posted By Michael Sandy

So here is the beast - the defender. Things added to the basic Remington 870:

- Vang Comp 18" barrel with all the upgrades they do
- Vang Comp 2 round mg extension and mushroom safety
- Surefire foregrip with integrated LED light
- Mesa Tactical 6 round side mag
- Speedfeed Stock

I'm adding an Aimpoint T1 Sight next week - so it is still evolving 8)

Pistol Caliber Carbines anyone?

Posted By Michael Sandy

I always wanted one of the Ruger .44 mag carbines - the ones that look like a 10/22 that grew up. I've always kicked myself for not buying one while they were in production. Maybe I'll find a used one someday.
