A Nightmare With No End

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The former top US commander in Iraq calls the Bush administration's management of the war in Iraq "incompetent" and bluntly states the war is "a nightmare with no end in sight." He also denounced the surge as a "desperate" move that will not bring stability to the region.

In a related development, the US army finds no evidence that blackwater was fired upon by Iraqis when it blew away helpless Iraqi civilians. How would you feel if your family was blown away by private contractors hired by the Bush Administration?

Bush/Supreme Court/Texas Death Penalty

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Two Republican congressmen from Texas took issue with Bush today on CNN. At issue is the death penaly imposed upon an illegal alien who raped and murdered two girls in Texas. The rapist/murderer was convicted and sentenced to death. But Mexico appealed in an international court, and Bush subsequently intervened to negate the death sentence, reportedly to further the US government's interests abroad. Bush has reportedly ignored previous decisions from the same international court. Now, the state of Texas says Bush has no authority to impose his decision on the state and the case will reportedly be heard by the US Supreme court.

Do you think Bush has the authority to impose his decision upon the state of Texas?

Rice: "Only I Can Deliver" on Middle East

Posted By Rod Kaufman

So the grandiose designs of Condi Rice are at it again big time in the middle of Palestinian/Israeli talks on the middle east. It's a message that Condi thinks only she can deliver.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/10/15/rice.abbas.ap/index.html
Frankly, the only message I'm seeing here is that her ego is ten axe handles wide. For starters, if she thinks a Palestinian state can be formed without participation of moderate arab countries, none of which have yet agreed to participate, she is even more detached from reality than most of us believe. If she thinks that Palestinian president Abbas represents the majority of the Palestinians and possesses the power to do so, she is even more detached from reality since the Hammas is calling the shots (literally and figuratively).
Condi Rice, our representative in the world...

One Polar Bear Left Alive

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Although scientists fear that global warming may soon cause polar bears to become extinct, there's at least one that's alive and kicking: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/10/18/putin.iraq.ap/index.html
Although Bush doesn't acknowledge global warming (it's "climate change"), he's still faced with a ornery bear that won't play by his rules...

What's A "Values Voter" To Do?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Today, thousands of evangelical "values voters," previously described by John McCain in 2000 as "agents of intolerance", will flock to Washington to attempt to pick a GOP candidate to support.
The "values voters" face a deliemma on several fronts. First, a poll finds their previous bread and butter issues of anti abortion/anti gay/anti(you fill in the blank), being pushed to the back burner by their own ranks.
Second, they can't find a GOP candidate that completely satisfies their every whim and their leading hope, Sam Brownback, is pretty much kaput in the GOP race.
But, Mitt Romney is courting all of 'em by stating the "most important work in America is in between the four walls at home." (Yeah, right!)

The Mad Man Theory

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Richard Nixon tried to bluff the North Vietnamese and the Russians into believing he might use nukes against Vietnam in order to win concessions in the war. The LA Times suspects Bush might be attempting to do the same with Iran:

Nixon reportedly went off on a drunken rage and told Kissinger he was going to have to nuke them all but Henry calmed him down. Who calms down Bush? Cheney?...

We Have A "Values Voters" Winner!

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Yes sir'ee, it's a done deal! From the "Values Voter Summit" wherein only the "political arm" of the "Family Research Council" could vote comes a clear winner in their straw vote.
Before you click on the link to find the winner, assuming you can hold yourself back, here are some clues. See if you can name him first:
1. Previously pro-choice, now pro-life.
2. He's not the ex-lobbyist for a pro-choice group.
3. Women are clearly subservient baby-makers and belong in the home.
4. The "most important work happens in the four rooms of the home."
5. He's the ultimate flip-flopper.
Give up?
Here you go!:
