Rice/Hunter on Diplomats

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Republican Duncan Hunter has come up with the perfect solution for the diplomat shortage in Iraq: fill the empty slots with wounded Americans! That's right, put our wounded to work, gotta a get our monies worth!
Not to be outdone, Condi Rice simply says suck it up and show up!

Oil and Iran

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Today on KNX news radio, an oil analyst predicted $300.00/barrel if the US strikes Iran. The analyst also stated the revised sentiment among military leaders in Washington is demonstrating a bias for US -based strikes against Iran which is the opposite of the sentiment expressed a few months ago. Apparently, the Cheney maniacs are hammering away at Bush in order to get him to authorize a strike.
The White House, for its part, is denying any responsibility for the recent run-up in oil:

Republicans Switch To Obama

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Some Republicans, apparently convinced their party is going down no matter what, are switching parties in an effort to prevent Hillary from gaining the nomination:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/11/05/republicans-in-early-states-change-parties-to-support-obama/
Hmmm, first it's the Republicans who want Hillary to win because she'll lose and now it's the Republicans themselves who fear her so much they're willing to back another Democrat to become president.
Weird politics...

Ripping Off Reagan

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The Reagan presidential library is nestled in a hilltop overlooking Simi Valley California. The library itself is quite impressive and the surrounding community is staunchly Republican and the outpouring of sympathy during the Reagan funeral was genuine.
Unfortunately, some of the "insiders" are ripping off the library over memorabilia and artifacts:

LAPD Targets Muslim Enclaves

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The Los Angeles City Police Department has begun the process of "mapping" muslim areas that may be at risk for inculcation of extremist influences:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-lapd9nov09,0,1646403.story?coll=la-home-local
Already, the cries of "racial profiling" have begun.
Hmmm, the LAPD targets gang activities in hispanic and black areas within Los Angeles but there's no outcry of racial profiling in relation to that action. Should it be any different in this case?...

Govt: America Rethink Privacy

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The deputy intelligence director has bluntly told the American people they must rethink their right to privacy and the government and private businesses know what's best for all of us:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/11/terrorist.surveillance.ap/index.html
A witness against the government states he connected a device that enables the government to record every email obtained from users of AT&T. There are reportedly 20 of these recording devices setup around the country.
Geez, every email we make goes to a US government supercomputer...

What Goes Around Comes Around

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The White House got a taste of its own medicine today when a federal judge ordered it to preserve all of its email:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/12/white.house.email.ap/index.html
While the White House thought it got to pick and choose which of its email it wanted to keep or delete while a government supercomputer records all of yours (along with phone calls), a federal judge has determined otherwise. Now, let's hope the lawsuits brought against the Bush government will prevail as well.

Point/Counterpoint on Iraq

An interesting set of opinions on the effectiveness of the "surge" in Iraq:
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-dustup12nov12,0,7978252.story?coll=la-opinion-center
However you see it, the Bush adminstration will continue to move the goalposts once again, arguing for more and more time to remain in Iraq...

Bold Bush On Airport Congestion

Posted By Rod Kaufman

George Bush recognizes the wall of congestion and delays facing the American traveler at the airport and deftly stepped in. To it.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TRAVEL/11/15/airline.delays.ap/index.html
If you're looking for the provision that negates the necessity of airport security searching ninety year old ladies for shoe bombs and other associated contraband (such as water bottles), forget it. Rest assured, our security(like the war in Iraq)comes first.
And, if you're concerned about the security of our president, be assured our freeways and their onramps will be closed anytime he shows up in your community. Afterall, they can't be delayed...
