Re: Clinton slips behind Republican foes in new po

Posted By Rod Kaufman

"There were those in this forum who were so shrill in their hatred of Bush that they were predicting a landslide for anyone the Dems put up."
Actually, Jim, the posts that I recall predicting a win for Hillary came not from the people you have referred to as "libs" but from the more conservative posters in the forum.

Bush Throws The Dice

Posted By Rod Kaufman

George W Bush, diplomat and statesman, is back at it again boldly going where no American president has gone before: Annapolis with Abbas and Olmert and forty countries. Big, bold, Bush!
And it's all for purposes of peace, er ah, Bush's legacy:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/27/bush.annapolis/index.html
Assisting in crafting the accord for Bush's legacy is, you guessed it, Condi Rice. We all know how successful she's been.
In the meantime, Hammas, which essentially controls Palestinian politics is holding its own summit and Bush isn't invited.
Are you betting on Bush?...

Which Mitt To Believe?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The ultimate Republican flip-flopper is at it again. Mitt wasn't content to simply change his views on abortion. He now has submitted a campaign mailer announcing his intent to shove it done our throats:

I especially enjoyed reading the comments from the readers immediately following the article at the bottom of the webpage.
Yup, the GOP, The Republicans, getting government right into your faces and keeping it there.
The GOP, your bridge to the eleventh century...

The Republican Debate

Posted By Rod Kaufman

First, what you didn't hear:
Hint: It's the new Republican "F" word. Give up? It's Bush! Not a single Republican candidate would even so much as utter his name. That has to come back to haunt them in November since virtually all of them, with the exception of Ron Paul, back Bush policies.
The most articulate of the evening? Mike Huckabee, by far. At least the man can string two sentences together without a vapor lock.
The most evasive candidate with an inability to actually answer a direct question had to be Mitt Romney. You should have heard the exchange between himself and McCain on waterboarding and torture. Romney's response went something like this: I don't condone torture but I have to rely on others in consultation in order to tell me what and what does not constitute torture. But does he condone waterboarding? Answer: he has to consult! Romney's exchange with Anderson Cooper on Romney's previous statement on his views that he will, at sometime, see gays serving openly in the military: "Now is not that time!" Cooper: But will you ever see a time when they will? Romney: See above for Romney's statement.
The most ballsy guy in the pack? Obviously, Ron Paul telling it like it is to a bunch of Bush for brain Republicans on Iraq.
Our permanent bridge to 9/11? Rudy, Rudy and more Rudy. You'd think the Republicans would finally tell the guy to discuss something beyond it and his days prosecuting the mafia in New York.
The best attack ad thus far: Thompson's blasting of Romney and Rudy. Have you seen it? It's a doozy!
Come on Thompson, bring it on!...

Another Blank From Republicans

Posted By Rod Kaufman

You heard a lot about the bible, immigration, Iraq, the bible, and I'm a Reagan reincarnate, the bible and on and on but you didn't hear a single word about health care.
I wonder which one of the Republicans is going to pay for all of those unaborted children they will save as well as all of the uninsurds out there. While we are at it, which one of the Republicans is going to pay for another "no child left behind" act? BTW, the US has now slipped behind other countries to number 13 in reading skills and comprehension. No surprises there, the "no child left behind act" is a sham. The number one country in reading skills and comprehension? Russia.

Huckabee?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I agree he is articulate and he has a pleasant demeanor about him but I wouldn't support his views on a variety of issues.
He seemed worlds ahead of the sleeze around him in the Republican debate.

Oprah

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It will be interesting to see how far Oprah's influence actually extends.
Personally, I never did like her interview style on her show. She always appeared to interrupt her guests in the middle of an answer so I got frustrated watching her and never watched her show after a time or two. Perhaps she's changed because she's obviously successful in communicating.
So much for my critique of Oprah. If she gets a Democrat into the White House the more power to her...

The Most Arrogant White House Ever

Posted By Rod Kaufman

..."the lowest in capacity, capability, in policy, in consensus,- almost every area, I would give it the lowest grade."
The words of Republican senator Chuck Hagel:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/11/29/hagel-criticizes-arrogant-bush-white-house/
He predicts the next president will need at least four years to "dig out from underneath that."
Only four? He's a bit of an optimist, don't you think?...

Iran Not Building Nukes

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It appears the US finally caught up with the UN and has determined for itself that Iran isn't building nukes:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/03/iran.nuclear/index.html
I posted a thread quite awhile ago noting the head of the IAE of the UN bluntly stated Iran wasn't building nukes and, in fact, it appears they stopped any intentions of doing so four years ago. Nevertheless, the Bush Cheney nuke team felt otherwise and seized upon the fears to saber rattle, which helped send our oil prices sky high.
I think it's a safe bet Dick Cheney doesn't trust our own intell any more that he trusts the UN, probably because his own "analysis" is always different, even if it's wrong...

Bush's Don't Ask Don't Tell Policy

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Anybody catch Bush's press conference today? Did anybody really listen to it?
If you did, you would have heard a skeptical reporter ask Bush why, if he had learned much earlier than everybody else about Iran's decision to halt development on their nuke program, did he continue to talk about Iran and the possibility of World War Three. Bush's response? Bush stated an intelligence official visited with him but only told him that he had new intelligence on Iran and that was it. Does this seem credible to you? I mean an inteeligence officer visits the president and says he's got new intell on Iran and he doesn't tell Bush what it is? And Bush doesn't bother to ask? Not even an initial impression?
Yeah, right...
