Meanwhile, Back In Iraq

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Overheard on the national news last night:
1. One billion dollars worth of US arms, principally assault weapons, grenade launchers and explosives have gone missing and the suspicion in the US military is they are now in the hands of the insurgents.
2. Iraqi police and special forces units that had been brought into the US for more training have "vanished" and nobody in the US military and or the state department knows where they are.
Sleep well tonight...

Bush, Harriet and the CIA Tapes

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Seems the commander in chief was left out of the loop again on the CIA tapes reportedly demonstrating torture of terrorist suspects. Or, so he says. That seems a bit odd since his White House counsel and confidant and former Bush candidate for the Supreme Court, Ms Harriet Meyers, knew all about them:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/07/cia.videotapes/index.html
All of this follows Bush's explanation that he didn't ask and he wasn't told of the intell indicating Iran wasn't pursuing nukes when it was brought to his attention.
Perhaps Bush is just used to being left out of the loop...

Scooter Skates His Appeal

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Scooter Libby finally recognized reality and dropped his appeal of his perjury and obstruction of justice convictions of which the jurors on the case had described as blatant:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/10/cia.leaktrial.ap/index.html
His lawyer stated the burden on him and his family was just too great, as if scooter was the victim!
Scooter's wife didn't feel it was a burden to get the president to commute his sentence, simply stating it would happen or Scooter had enough on 'em all to, in her words, "F 'em."
I wonder if scooter gets his money back and his record expunged when Bush pardons him when he leaves office..

Why Oil Costs So Much

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I've stated the reason before in one word: speculation.
Want proof? Read this:
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-roberts10dec10,0,7648253.story?coll=la-opinion-rightrail
Note the the bottom line expressed in the article: every time Bush shoots his mouth off about Iran, the cost of oil goes ballistic and Iran benefits from every rattle of the saber. The politicians in Washington have to regulate the speculation but as long as they don't, America suffers and America's foes grow stronger...

Alberto Gonzales: Lawyer of the Year!

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The ABA journal has recognized Alberto Gonzales by providing him their top honor and awarded him, "Lawyer of the Year." The journal of the American Bar Association has recognized Mr Gonzales based upon the following:
1. Various scandals in the Bush administration
2. "Veracity-challenged" in Senate testimony
3. Re-institute pre-Watergate presidential authority
Runners-up included Scooter Libby and various lap dogs of the Dick Cheney and the Bush administration:

Bush On The Economy

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Bush strolled in on a crowd of about 80 business people in order to profess his views on our rosy economy. This evidently wasn't the typical pre-selected, pre-screened, pre-filtered, pre-laundered Bush audience since they didn't applaud anything Bush said. Additionally, they probably didn't believe anything Bush said, either. Bush's admonishment to congress was not to raise taxes on the American people, which, according to the Republicans in congress, means big oil since they blocked any new taxes on oil companies and their record profits.
Well, you can believe Bush or you can believe the somber mood of his latest audience:

Judge: To WH Make Public Records Public

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It's about time but its unfortunate it takes a federal judge to order the White House to makes its visitor logs public, which they truly are. In the case of Dick Cheney, as noted by the LA Times, he had refused to allow visitor logs with the names of public employees paid by taxpayer dollars to be released under executive privilege. Another judge had ruled against Cheney but the SOB is appealing the ruling!
It's a sick White House and a bevy of sick minds that hold the public names of public employees as some kind of vital secret:

And Bush Knew Nothing About It

Posted By Rod Kaufman

We now know Alberto Gonzales and top lawyers from Dick Cheney and crew were in on the destruction of CIA tapes. We already knew Harriet Meyers, confidant of the president, knew about it. In fact, it appears just about anybody who is somebody in the White House knew about it, everybody except George W Bush...
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/19/cia.tapes.ap/index.html
So, either Dick Cheney and George W Bush are lying when they say they knew nothing about it or they're complicit in the decision to destroy the tapes, or they're simply so incompetent that they don't require their attorneys to inform them in matters such as these.

Spot On Editorial On Romney

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I've characterized Mitt Romney early on as a candidate who will say and do anything to get elected. I think he's flip-flopped on so many issues, I've lost track of the number. You CAN count on Mitt to be the first up to sling mud at any candidate, Republican or Democrat, who is perceived by the Romney campaign to be a threat and they're likely to be on the receiving end of an attack ad on TV quicker than you can say, "flip/flop."
Now, in New Hampshire, an editorial on stopping Romney in his tracks in that state captures the essence of the man:

Talk about a spot on editorial! Man those guys are good!

19 year old to rule Pakistan

Posted By Rod Kaufman

It now appears a 19 year old will rule Pakistan:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/12/30/pakistan.politics/index.html
At first glance, I'd agree with a Pakistan correspondent who explained this is rediculous but perfectly acceptable in a feudal society. On second thought, the kid can't possibly do much worse than Bush, so what's the dif?
I wonder how the Bush administration feels about selling all those fighter jets to Pakistan a month or two ago? Better yet, I wonder what India thinks about it.
Anyhow, it's nice to know how our 10 billion in aid is being appreciated by all concerned parties...
