Ammunition Depletion

Posted By Michael Sandy

Same thing everywhere I've heard of. Most all on-line sales places and dealers all over the country are sold out as soon as new supplies come in. New guns sales are off the charts.....biggest rush to buy guns and ammo anyone that I have talked to has seen in a long time. Been going on since early November 2008 for some reason. Not sure exactly why, but I understand that President Obama has been nominated for Firearms Sale Person of the year.......

astromart fees

Posted By Michael Sandy

Okay.....this whole thread finally pushed me over the top on this support stuff. People whine about spending very few bucks supporting a site that saves us all thousands of dollars in this expensive and equipment intensive hobby - but have no problems selling equipment worth thousands of dollars. Kevin, you've sold 15" Obsessions, TOA 130, and a ton of other high end equipment - what would those transactions have cost on that other site that shall not be mentioned? Sorry Kevin - this really isn't directed at you - but I don't get it......

Every piece of equipment we buy - new or used - will likely be sold in a year or so. Without Astromart - where are you going to do that? Our needs and expectations change and so does the equipment we use. Without Astromart as a place where I could sell great equipment that I don't want or need anymore, or buy great equipment at huge discounts to new stuff - I couldn't (or wouldn't) buy anywhere near the gear I do today - Are you any different?

So what gives? Astromart is by far the best place on the net to buy and sell astro equipment - the next best is a joke in comparison. Yet I look at the ads, and only 10-15% of them are placed by current supporters. For the privilege of offering this service to the community, and putting up with all the BS (no wonder Herb is losing it a bit - Sorry Herb) Herb has to shell money out of pocket - Astromart should be self supporting. So why don't we all quit whining and toss in some bucks to help out!

I usually support AM on an ongoing basis - have for several years. I haven't re-upped my support for the last couple of months, however, and maybe I was just feeling guilty myself. The good news is that I saved enough on my last transaction to fix that problem.

Rant off - sorry for hogging the soapbox

South African Ammo

I have shot some of the South African 5.56mm ammo, and whileI don't recall the specifics you were asking about, I made a note to myself to buy more when and if I found it

Aligning Sites on a Handgun

Posted By Michael Sandy

Hi Rod,

For such a simple question, it seems like there should be a simple answer - unfortunately I can't figure out what it is and I'm not sure where to start. So let me ask a question or two and let's see were that goes. What is the nature of the inaccuracy that you need to correct? Does the little Llama impact consistently in one area of the target, and if so - where does it impact and at what range are you firing? Are you firing left or right handed?

From my experience, most accuracy issues with handguns are caused by something other than the handgun.....usually it is the hand that it rests in. Trigger pull issues are the main culprit, and a good instructor could probably tell you what your issue is if they knew where you where impacting.

If you shoot carefully from a sandbag or other rest at 10 yards or so and the gun doesn't hold a tight group - there may be something wrong with the gun, and you may need a gunsmith to sort that out. If it holds a tight group and is just impacted in the wrong place (and the gun has adjustable sights) it is fairly easy to adjust them yourself. If the gun doesn't have adjustable sights, you may again need the services of a gunsmith. I have no idea what that would cost.

Amazing that with 9X10 minute exposures you were able to faintly capture the surrounding shell - and with an STL-11000 (not the most sensitive chip on the planet smile ). Very impressive first light!

Teeny Tiny Reflex Red Dots

Posted By Michael Sandy

I have an Aimpoint Micro T1 on a Remington Shotgun (I think I posted a picture of that on this forum). It is a super little sight and puts the round on target no matter where your head is (so long as you can see the dot). I wonder about the cheaper knock-offs...... but maybe someone has tried them and will report.

One thing I like about the Aimpoint is the battery life.......1000's X hours of life. You can basically turn it on and store the gun, you'd have to replace the batteries every 5 years or so.

Nice post!

Hi Lee,

I have a Makarov CZ-52 chambered in 7.62x25. It is a nice weapon, and very interesting mechanical design - pretty cool.
