An Understatement

"Juice" the economy now!: Ben Bernanke:

Oh really? Why we just had Bush telling us all how great the economy was doing:

It seems our leaders, our luminaries, are a little slow on the uptake these days...

Saudis Send Bush Packing

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Bush's middle east tour was a joke.
To begin with, the US gave smart bombs to the Saudis before Bush arrived. As one commentator noted, it is hoped the bombs were preset by the US military so they can't encode sequences that allow them to be used on us or our allies. One can only hope that is true.
Then, when Bush arrived, he pleaded (begged)for the Saudis to increase oil production(ostensibly for the American "middle class"). Hours later, the Saudi oil minister refused to do so.
Additionally, virtually all of Bush's goals for his visit were never realized:

It appears Bush is just as popular abroad as he is here at home...

Bush and Our Vets

Posted By Rod Kaufman

George W Bush doesn't want our POWs who were tortured while in captivity during the Iraq war to be compensated for their pain and suffering:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/25/gulf.war.lawsuit/index.html
Afterall, if he condones torture in America and our tortured can't sue why should our people be treated any differently? I seem to remember McCain complaining that something like this might happen if we don't adhere to a higher standard. Well, we all know about the higher standard of the Bush administration...

That's the latest tally of the number of lies Bush and his administration issued in it's run up to the war with Iraq:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,324753,00.html
It's interesting the study concluded the media essentially rolled over for the Bush administration during this two year period despite all of the unsubstantiated hype from consevatives that the so-called "liberal media" was distorting the Bush record...

McCain

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Yeah great, now we have another Bush in the pipe. With McCain as president, we might as well adopt Iraq as our 51st state since we'll be there for another 50 years.
Well, at least he (reportedly)believes in global warming and purportely wants to do something about it. And, if the latter is true, it will be a major accomplishment, especially for a Republican.
Anything but Romney...

US Drugged Deported People

Posted By Rod Kaufman

The last time I saw a practice similar to the one recently used by the United States was a case in Russia wherein a nurse or doctor injected a sedative into a woman complaining about the loss of her son at a demonstration of public outrage in the sinking of the Minsk.
Now the US has been found liable in injecting drugs such as Haldol into people who were about to be deported. Why they injected haldol remains a bit of a mystery but given our present administration, it doesn't seem to out of place except that the administration should have injected itself.
Anyhow, the practice seems to have stopped by lawsuits:

A Conflict of Interest?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Should the former director of the 9/11 commission have either resigned or informed the committee of his contacts with the White House during the formulation of the report?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/03/sept11.director.ap/index.html
It appears, if the book is correct, he should have since he evidently pledged not to have contacts with the White House. Why did this guy speak to Karl Rove who was the political adviser to Bush during the time the commission was formulating its report?
If anything, it seems like the timing of the director's contacts with Rove seem inappropriate, don't you think?
