Hi Maurice:

Is this a typo?  I can see mandatory mask wearing when one is indoors, especially in a heavily air-conditioned locale like AL in July.  Outdoors makes no sense unless there is in fact a large crowd gathered outdoors.

Have you looked for Comet Neowise?  I have had heavy rain for two evenings, which is nice in these parts where forest fires are a threat, but still - I need a clear evening tonight!

Not only that, my Belgian Tervuren would be able to mop the floor with Trump in a debate - even Biden will not mess this up. He just needs to be pPresidential and remind people of what Trump has said and done...like "trade wars are easy....why would I doubt Putin over our own CIA?...there are just 15 cases soon going to zero...we need to get nasty on these thugs with the national guard...there are good people on both sides...I could go on for HOURS, and this beauty:

Hi Russ:

I let this one slide the first time, but seriously; "I doubt it. You can't cause the death of 100k+ Americans through sheer negligence, incompetence, and apathy for the safety of any American other than yourself and get re-elected."

The virus will cause the death of 100-200k Americans, not Trump's incompetence.   Did the presidents of Italy and Spain personally cause those deaths too?  How about Cuomo, governor of "Death Central"?

Perhaps some fraction of the deaths would have been prevented if Trump would have been a more effective leader, but what specifically did he do that caused all of the deaths.  The world was in uncharted territory in Jan-March.  I doubt that the many stupid things Trump says have killed anyone.

I am pretty confident that the death toll would have been much higher without our civic response.  Does Trump get credit for saving those lives too?

Jim

p.s.  The US is about middle of the pack in deaths per million, among nations that reliably report deaths:

Wow, this drew another three-rant reply if you count mine!  You guys are good at spinning up the masses!

Maybe we should ask Herb for a rating scale to quickly demonstrate outrage!  We could call them the "Ranties."  Then when we post something provocative, we could privately chuckle and wonder just how many Ranties will be earned in reply!  Readers could just apply a Rantie rating, since we already know what will be said.  It would save a ton of time.    1-5 would be good.  Something like this:

I'll just start with this doozy, the lie that just keeps on giving from the disingenuous left:   "there are good people on both sides".

I'm assuming that you are implying that he was praising Nazis?  This is the big lie that the left continuously promotes, because they haven't an honest bone in their collective bodies.

My retort would be simply to say that uninformed, ignoramuses on the left, a group of which you've proven to be part of, who repeat that, indicates your aversion to truth.  No problem because we understand that this is a trait of the left, that they don't value truth.

They are much more comfortable repeating a lie, just as Thom Sowell indicated the other night when he compared leftists in the Democrat party to Josef Goebbels.

Let me just put forth the truth and destroy your lie above

Steve Cortes, a former CNN employee who was fired by them because he dared to tell the truth in an article that he wrote about Charlottesville, put that lie to bed last year.

But don't let facts get in the way of your lies, you are obviously a full fledged member of the left now, and so facts are apparently anathema to you.

I'll be happy to correct your lies along the way, and if the leftist apologist here from Boulder wants to characterize my responses to you and the others here as "rants", he's free to do so.
Who the hell is from Boulder?  On my screen, our hometowns are shown right under the avatar.

As of now, you've earned four Ranties.  Could go higher.  You are the master.

Covid-19 data and graphs

Gov. Polis of Colorado has just issued a statewide mask requirement for citizens over the age of 10.  This applies to public indoor spaces.  In view of the graph below, showing hospitalizations,  I am supportive of this move.  During the press conference the Mayor of Denver made it clear that things would have to get much worse before another lock-down was ordered.  Hopefully it is obvious, but no one need wear a mask at home, in their car, outside or such.   If this helps avoid another round of business closures, who could be against it?1

Meanwhile, Gov. Kemp has issued an order blocking GA cities who might want to issue local orders requiring masks...  Hmm.  Whatever happened to Republicans supporting local rule?2

Hi Darian:

Not sure what James is going to say in reply, but if you don't mind, I'll answer for me.

On the Wednesday after election day, I'll get up, go to work - maybe a bit tired because I'll have stayed up.  It will be an ineffective day at work, always is after an election.  I'll post here for sure.  That day I'll eat meals, look at the market and chat with my wife.  Same as every Wednesday.  If I'm lucky, I might get to fuss with my telescopes and cameras that night.  And so on, for four more years.  Things will change of course, especially on a personal level.  I'll be 59 on election day.  Might retire in the next four years.  I'll keep in touch with our kids, both are out of the house and out of the State for now.  Maybe one or both will get married in the next four years?  That would be cool.  Heck, a grandchild is not out of the question!

I'll be cordial with the neighbors and my work mates.  Hopefully I'll be active and healthy - rde my bike, hike, and shoot the rapids.  I need to make more time to fish too!  I'll worry about those less fortunate and do some charity.  I'll get spun up by morons like Paul Krugman and I'll argue with my liberal NYC sister in law.  Nothing too serious though.  I'll keep in touch with my brothers, mom and dad (Lord willing, dad turns 90 this year.)  I'll fuss around the house.  If I get sick or hurt I'll get care.  I'll keep in touch with my friends.  I'll help my clients protect their IP.  I might lose some clients, I might get more.  I'll definitely be transitioning some of my work to younger lawyers in the office.  Part of my fade-out strategy.

I hope to never forget that I'm pretty fortunate.  I am not a big fan of some of the BLM rhetoric, but they surely do have some good points.  I'm a privileged guy and I need to keep that in mind.

In other words, I'll live life in this great country.  No matter who is elected.  Our system is that robust!  Bad things might happen to me and my loved ones in the next four years, but the USA will be just fine - Trump or Biden.

HI Darian:

I enjoyed that too, in 2016 and I would enjoy it again in 2020 if Trump wins.  ON the contrary, I gotta say I'll enjoy the crickets here from some folks if Biden wins.  Bottom line though.  Nothing much is going to change if Biden wins.  I am hoping that the heated political rhetoric on the national scene calms down a bit, but that is probably naive.

Point made!

I think it is partially unfortunate that Biden has the nomination.  I was vocally opposed to Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren as you recall.  But there was plenty of younger and  fresher political talent in the D race early on.  The Democrat's nomination process has produced two uninspiring candidates in the last two cycles.  Biden is more palatable to me than Clinton, but still...

As you know, I don't think the occupant of the oval office has the overwhelming emperor-like effect on governance that some folks do.  So I guess Biden is a fine D candidate, from my point of view.  He is certainly not Warren or Sanders.  Just 12 years ago the Democrats nominated an inspiring new up-and-comer.  (Hopefully that line earns me a few Ranties).  Seriously though, even if one hated Obama's politics one had to admit that he was an inspiring figure.  And then the D's nominate two fossils from a bygone era, one of whom is extremely ethically compromised.  I know there is no answer, this is a rhetorical post, but why the heck would the Ds do that?

Russ, I think I was unclear - my intention was that one earns "Ranties" by making such a provocative or inflammatory post that others - Rich for instance - are compelled to post multiple lengthy rants in reply.  In order to save time Rich could just award a suitable number of Ranties to the original post.  This would save him the effort of melting another keyboard calling you, James, or whomever the original poster was an idiot 10 times, a commie, chasing down straw men, moving the goal posts and so on.

So, your post above is, in my opinion, benign and earns no Ranties.  The trollish bit from yesterday about Trump personally causing 200k deaths was a beauty and would earn at least 10 Ranties.
