Replace Biden, Somehow

One thing that strikes me about that graph, is that some who disapprove might think that Trump is doing too little, and others who disapprove, (hard core deplorables for example) might think he is doing too much.  So, I am not sure that this correlates to folks who were going to vote for Trump flipping over to Biden.

Just guessing though.

I think this is a large difference between the D and R nominating programs.  Trump was demonstrably not the choice of the party machine.  The party absolutely lost control of the nomination process and a disgruntled majority of R voters wrested the nomination away from the R apparatus.  Although I am not a big fan of Trumps, I am glad that the people had their way.

Not so with the Ds.  For Clinton at least the process seems to have been well controlled in the background.

Hi Mel:

We'll see about that.  One thing seems likely to me.  If Biden can put up a barely credible but not embarrassing performance in the  debates, I think he beats Trump in the key swing states and wins.  I think a C or C- effort by Biden would do it.  Just enough to convince viewers that he is not as far gone as you seem to think he is.  The right has a lot vested in Biden being senile to cover up for Trump's unpopularity.  I think that is a losing strategy.

Darian:

I'd suggest that you reconsider.  If you think that James and Russ are more unhinged and hysterical than Richard, well, I don't know what to say... and that might be a first.  Obama still lives in Rich's head - his denial, if he chooses to make one, will be particularly funny.  James is never unhinged, never rants and is never hysterical.  Russ trolls us from time to time.  Richard lately is unhinged, hysterical and in rant mode 24/7.

p.s.  If this does not earn me some Ranties, I am not sure what I can do.

Until Hiden Biden gets out there and shows he can think on his feet, I have good reason to think he can't.
It is very obvious they have been thinking he can not give a good account of himself.
An alternative theory would be that the strategists in Biden's campaign know that Trump is becoming more unpopular by the day, so why should Biden get out there and attract attention to himself?  Let Trump hang himself a bit more every day.  Then, spin Joe up for the best debate performance he can summon, when the time comes.

So far, this looks like a winning strategy.

The kids could all see it just fine. Awesome in my 15x50 binos. The nucleus was very bright and sharp and the tail went on about 3º. I even looked at it through my dob with a 31 Nagler giving me about a 1.3º FOV. The seeing was great for Michigan and Jupiter and Saturn put on a great show, too.

There were about thirty folks there and we all social distanced. Lots of car headlights driving through and when folks were leaving after the comet hid behind the trees.
It cleared after dark for us.  When I finally realized that it was clear, the nucleus had just set.  The lower part of the tail was naked eye though, for both me and my wife.  I think we could make it out to about 1/2 to 2/3 the height of the tree below.

I sure hope it clears today, because just the tail was pretty impressive!  Here is a single frame unprocessed, poorly focused and taken in extreme haste!  I think I had it set to 5 seconds with a 100 mm lens at f2.  The field of view with this lens is about 20.5 degrees by 13.5 degrees.  What a huge comet!

Hi Darian:

I think Richard has a lot to add.  But I really don't like like it when he outright slanders people I admire and consider friends.   There are a thousand instances of him calling James, Russ, Jim and others idiots, fools, etc. and worse.  Ok, that is not a persuasive style, but whatever.

The line for me though, is when he states, with apparent sincerity, that these are not his friends.  Life is too short to waste time with people who actually do not like you.  It is sad commentary if we can only be friends with our ideological clones.
