This puts a lot of weight on your shoulders Greg!

Covid-19 data and graphs

Hi all:

We just came in - Neowise was spectacular.  We could see at least 8 degrees of tail with easy naked eye.  This viewing site is at about 8500 feet and is was clear and transparent, except for some low clouds.  I took a ton of photos with 100 mm and 50 mm camera lenses and my Traveler.  I'm going to have to learn how to stack DSLR color photos, never done that before - I've always worked with mono FIT ccd photos.  If I can stack these and reduce the noise, I ought to have something pretty good.

This is the 100mm lens - Mt. Princeton on the horizon.  Sorry that I can't get it to stand up straight!  Jim

50 mm camera lens.  Single frame.  Can't wait to try stacking these, I have lots of subs!

Hi James:

I guess you weren't kidding yesterday, when you said you were driving a little north...  smile

I think it is a lovely composition as is!   Jim

p.s. speaking of fly-bys, I can believe how many of my subs have satellite trails.  I have been out of astrophotography for a while, and don't recall such a busy sky.  For regular deep sky though, you never shoot this low to the horizon, so that may have something to do with it.

Hi Darian:

I think the other Jimbos are making a good point.  Our system is built on individual liberty.  The Antifa activists may be destructive scum, but they still have rights.  If we take away their rights, who are we to complain when the government comes for our rights?

So, my suggestion would be:  "citizens I vehemently disagree with."

Jim

p.s.  I see that Dave and others already made this point.  We are probably all on the same page.

Good luck Rich - I personally think your contributions would be a ton more persuasive if you toned it down.

But... did you have to send the clouds down here?!?!?!?!?! sad  I managed brief glimpses of the comet between clouds the past 2 nights and tonight is was thunder, lightening and heavy rain!

Here is one I got a few nights back.  15sec Modified Canon D60 100mm F/2.8 Nikon lens
Hi Maurice:

Thanks, I really like this last one you posted.  The motion-blurred foreground looks like an impressionist painting!

This one is from Sunday, I think it was just as fine a sight as Saturday.  Yesterday the comet looked quite a bit fainter to me though - of course it is getting fainter, but it might have been a transparency change too.  Jim

The Trump Wallace Redux

Hi kinder, gentler Rich:

RINOs are in fact Republicans.  Lots of Republicans don't support Trump, or are at best luke-warm to his presidency.  That does not make these folks "not Republicans."  If Trump loses, it will be at least in part because he did not make an effort to assure that Republicans like me, who are tepid supporters at best, actually get out to vote for him.

Hi Greg:

Yes, I know what RINO means.  Thank goodness for RINOs like Susan Collins from Maine or the Supreme Court might look a little different.

This is the part I am disagreeing with:  "...they simply call themselves republicans despite their actions indicating otherwise."

This is a litmus test applied to categorize those who for whatever reason are not "Trump" Republicans.   Basically, the reasoning goes like this, "If you don't agree with Trump, then you are no real Republican."  I despise ideological purity tests.  Nothing wrong with you or Rich applying an ideological purity test of course, but it does drive Rich to some extremely illogical conclusions.

When Trump applies ideological "with me or against me" purity tests, he knowingly alienates some voters who have voted R their entire lives.  Trump obviously thinks that the benefit of whipping up his supporters is worth it.  I personally do not think this is an indulgence Trump can afford if he wants to win in November.  But he did it in 2016 and squeaked out a win, so what do I know?
